Gone with the walls!
The Saturn project involved a lot of structural work before we got to the pretty stuff. There were walls and posts that needed to be removed to create the beautiful open concept that the clients wanted. In some cases, you can remove a load bearing wall and replace with an LVL, but to achieve the fully open concept kitchen and living room for this 2 storey house, we installed a steel beam and additional supports in the basement to carry the load. After that, the fun stuff began…White oak engineered flooring, two-tone custom cabinetry, beautiful quartz and a textured yet simple backsplash tile. We also added a new gas fireplace with a minimalistic surround. New tiles in the entrance and new interior doors gave the front of the house the revival it needed. Love how everything turned out! 📸

Lots of new faces on our socials, so we’d like to reintroduce ourselves!
I’m Kass and next to me is Ben, the master mind behind RENOVOTTAWA. Here are a few things about us and the business:
- we started the business in 2014 and have been together even longer
- Ben has over 20 years of experience in the construction industry and holds a wealth of knowledge about any and all things renovation
- I am a material selection specialist and I design all of our custom project. I do all the administrative tasks as well… so it’s me you’d be talking to via email and social media! I also have a degree in environmental studies 🤓
- We have a design showroom (open to our clients by appt only) where we do the bulk of our material selection
- We have two awesome kiddos and big families on both sides!
- We both grew up playing competitive sports (I can be quite competitive, IYKYK)
- Together, along with our incredibly talented installers (who are too shy for the camera), we create beautiful renovations for our clients!

And without further ado, here is the main floor reveal of the St Louis project. We redid EVERYTHING! As you can tell from the “before” pictures (see end of post), the clients had a long and narrow galley kitchen that was dark and closed off from the rest of the house. Along the backside of one of the kitchen walls was a closet that had some good storage but was just not very efficient for the busy family. Our clients wanted open concept, so that’s what we did! New supporting beam went up and wow, did this ever turn into a brand new house. We needed to keep a support post under our new beam as the beam span was too long, but we wrapped the new kitchen island around the post for it to blend in better. New windows, wide plank engineered white oak flooring, matching stain on the white oak island, modern thin railed custom cabinetry throughout, custom panelled fridge, quartz countertop and backsplash and all the finer details in between. We loved incorporating the fluted accents in this project as it added depth and texture to the space. Softer textures are also found in the counter stools, matching end chairs, chandelier, ribbed fireplace tiles, window coverings and other furniture pieces. This whole space got a makeover. Huge props to our installers who knocked this project out of the park! Was such a fun project to work on and loved getting to know our clients along the way!

Here is the beautiful St Louis bathroom project reveal! As the only full bathroom in the house, our clients had big dreams for the once-cramped space! They wanted a bigger shower, but still needed a tub. They wanted a vanity with better storage but didn’t want upper cabinets looming over them. The clients had a general idea of what style of bathroom they wanted to move forward with and had a few inspiration pictures. With that, and our turn-key renovation services, we offered the clients exactly what they needed. The tub now melds into the shower area so more of the space becomes usable. We accomplished this by installing an undermount tub, wrapped in Dekton that extends into the shower as a bench with perfect mitred edges. For the vanity, we went for a simple design that gave more usable countertop space and efficient storage. Warm herringbone patterned tiles on the bathroom floor and also on the custom shower floor, soft white hand crafted tiles on the walls that continue into the niche, custom Starphire ultra-clear shower glass, brushed brass and matte black accents throughout… just perfection! Smaller spaces can be tricky to design but we got creative and it turned out beautifully. 📷

Happy (belated) New Year! Even though we’re midway through the first month of 2024, here’s a highlight reno we did in 2023. New tub and beautiful tiled surround with custom half glass panel. Tip: if you’re thinking of having a half glass installed and not a full sliding glass door or curtain, try showering with the curtain half open. It can be shocking how much cooler it gets in the shower. The heat and humidity escape a lot quicker and can make for a chilly shower experience. We also designed a beautiful custom vanity with loads of storage space for this guest bathroom. This is the third and final bathroom renovation for this come-back client. Great clients and always wonderful to work with them!

The Heatherwood entrance is also pretty exciting! Out with the old and in with a brand new staircase, courtesy of our friends at . They created the perfect custom stain to match the new hardwood. We removed the walls that enclosed the entrance and had a new front door installed. We also created a feature wall going all the way up to the second floor. There was so much blank wall space that we needed to add some visual interest. As for the itty bitty powder room, we added a funky wallpaper, new vanity and finishings. In the living room, we created a tapered frame around the existing fireplace to give more dimension to the wall. All in all, a huge transformation and a great success!

Heatherwood kitchen reveal! We renovated the entire main floor of this house but the showstopper is the kitchen! The original kitchen was small and mainly closed off to the rest of the main floor (see before pics). With the guidance of our trusted engineer, we took a supporting wall down (along with a few other non load bearing walls) to really open up the space. Now, our client has a HUGE kitchen with plenty of storage and lots of room to bake (her fav)!

Heatherwood basement bathroom reveal! This is the first of the Heatherwood reveals; full basement and main floor renovations. We started with the basement reno so our client could have a place to live/ work while we worked on her main floor. The basement project included re-insulating all her exterior walls, relocating plumbing to accommodate for a spacious laundry/storage room, drywall, vinyl flooring, etc., and this beautiful bathroom, of course. The bathroom was semi-roughed in so we dug where we needed to add the required plumbing. Our client wanted a bathroom that her guests would love, but turns out she’s using it as her primary bathroom now ;).

Time to reveal the Richmond project! This is a beautiful transformation of a once-closed-off kitchen/laundry room/dining area into a more inviting open concept space. The clients presented us with a general design concept that they had in mind and we ran with it. Lots of structural, plumbing and HVAC work to make the design work. We used some space from the master bedroom to move the laundry room upstairs (huge win!). With the laundry situation out of the way in the kitchen and putting beams up, we created an open concept kitchen/dining space (even bigger win!). We created a beautifully modern and bright space with super fun accents like the fluted black metal trimmed upper cabinets, bifold coffee station door with stylish interior and walnut accents. . Transformation Tuesday! This basement was previously semi-finished (not to our clients' liking) so we came in and transformed the space to meet their needs! They wanted a proper guest and living space, expand the bathroom as their existing one was "comically tinv" (I had never seen such a small bathtub) and also better storage space. The basement was oddly shaped, unlevel and small, but we're always up to a good challenge!
