Someone used an AI-generated quote to impersonate Vanity Roofing. 😳

They took a homeowner's deposit, damaged the roof, and disappeared. When the homeowner called us, we went out, inspected the damage, and repaired the roof at no cost.

We joined CTV News to talk about what happened, because this is the new reality: a written quote isn't proof anymore. AI can create a professional-looking quote with any company's name and logo in seconds. This includes some of the most reputable names.

Before you pay anyone a deposit:
✔️ Call the company using the number on their official website, not the one on the quote
✔️ Confirm the quote and the person you're dealing with actually came from them
✔️ Check that emails come from the company's real domain
✔️ Ask for proof of insurance and WSIB coverage
✔️ Be cautious of pressure to pay fast or pay by e-transfer to a personal account

This roof was only 5 years old. 😳

High nails = poor hold = shingles slipping out of place.
