We’re not done when the siding’s up 😎

Back at Second Line, this time for the finish. Last time you saw us installing Hardie board and fascia - now Liam walks us through what wrapping up actually looks like.

Paint touch-ups on anything that needs it, dings and scratches sorted, and caulking anywhere water likes to find a gap.

Then the part that actually matters - we back it for five years. Any deficiency in that window, we come fix it.

Rare footage of an estimator in the wild 🔍

Our team of estimators are at the Ottawa Fall Home Show all weekend. Booth 1404 for exteriors, 1400 for kitchens, and yes Etienne does migrate between them. Don't worry, he doesn't bite 😉

Siding, Kitchen Upgrades, tile, hardware, cabinet samples, countertops, the Lemans system. Come touch it all and ask whatever you want.

More energy. More passion. More Hardie 😎

Out in Dunrobin at our Tranquility Lane project where Nick and the crew are working through the HardiePanel install.

This one’s got a few details worth knowing about.

✅ Hardie panels and battens
✅ Flashing installed ahead of the future deck rim board to help prevent water getting behind it
✅ Proper capping around the patio doors
✅ Diagonal strapping so the panels can be installed properly while still letting the wall assembly breathe

That last one matters. Hardie should be installed over a proper rainscreen or strapping system - so if you’re getting siding quotes, ask how they’re handling drainage and airflow behind the product.

And yes, there’s a very big deck coming too 👀

Meet the guy who finds everything 🔍👀

Steve's our field manager and he's a self-described clean freak, which is exactly what you want in the person doing quality control.

We caught up with him mid-inspection at Kinmount. Backsplash install looked sharp, but he still flagged grout needing another clean, silicone residue, grout dust on the wall, caulking at the Schluter.

All of it gets photographed, logged, and brought to the Monday and Friday team meetings. The right trades get scheduled back to fix it.

Not glamorous. It's the reason our reviews look the way they do.

One of our biggest Hardie jobs 🔥

Full James Hardie wrap on our Second Line project - Hardie lap in cedar mill, real wood grain texture.

Most contractors run little aluminum pieces as their trims. Where possible, we use Hardie trims on Hardie siding - and you can see the difference side by side!

Dan gets into the starter capping and kick out at the base too, plus some soffit install and after angles.

Blue meets white and everything's right 😎

Surprise visit from the manager 👀

Caught the guys mid door install, so we grabbed the tour while we were there.

Project Carina - kitchen update, no gut.

✅ Two-tone painted cabinetry
✅ New countertop and backsplash
✅ New tile through the kitchen, entrance and powder room so it all ties together
✅ Island shifted over so the stools clear the hardwood

The floor's the part worth knowing about. The existing underlayment would've put the tile higher than the hardwood, so we pulled it and installed DITRA instead - sits lower, keeps the structure sound, and the transition between rooms ends up flush. Small things you notice every single day, you know?

No gut, no full rebuild. Brand new look for a fraction of the cost.

Safety has never looked this good 😎

Access setup is never the exciting part, but it's the stuff that saves lives every single day. Scaffold with outriggers, roof jacks for difficult to reach spots, lifelines on the whole time when required, and aiming to stay off ladders wherever we can.

Not much reason you can't have a little fun while you're at it 😉

From the 1970s to now! 🛁

You've seen the demo, the subfloor fixes, all the steps along the way. Now here's the reveal 😎

Project Catalina was a full-scope job - three rooms, one trip.

✅ Main bathroom - subfloor levelled, bulkhead removed, shower rebuilt, new tile and vanity
✅ En suite - new flooring, vanity, mirror, lighting, exhaust fan, accent tile in the shower niche
✅ Kitchen - two-tone cabinetry, new hardware, pot lights, new backsplash, fresh ceiling paint, granite countertops kept

Three rooms in one go is the part people don't expect. Once our crew is set up in your house, adding the en suite or the kitchen doesn't mean starting over - it's the same team, same schedule, one project.

It also means we catch the stuff underneath - and you already watched us do it. The cracked marble transition and that hu**ed subfloor were sorted before a single tile went down 🕵️

🎤 Siding 25 hours a day! 👷

That's Etienne's math, not ours.😂 He's an exterior estimator here at NorthCo - one of the team who comes out, looks at your house, and tells you what the project will actually take.

We had him run through the questions you keep asking us. What it costs. Whether you can clean vinyl yourself. What replaced dark blue this year. Whether he'd ever take a decaf.

He also brings up that he's partially colourblind. Doesn't slow him down one bit, and our designers are the ones locking in your colours anyway! 😅
