Surprise visit from the manager 👀

Caught the guys mid door install, so we grabbed the tour while we were there.

Project Carina - kitchen update, no gut.

✅ Two-tone painted cabinetry
✅ New countertop and backsplash
✅ New tile through the kitchen, entrance and powder room so it all ties together
✅ Island shifted over so the stools clear the hardwood

The floor's the part worth knowing about. The existing underlayment would've put the tile higher than the hardwood, so we pulled it and installed DITRA instead - sits lower, keeps the structure sound, and the transition between rooms ends up flush. Small things you notice every single day, you know?

No gut, no full rebuild. Brand new look for a fraction of the cost.

Safety has never looked this good 😎

Access setup is never the exciting part, but it's the stuff that saves lives every single day. Scaffold with outriggers, roof jacks for difficult to reach spots, lifelines on the whole time when required, and aiming to stay off ladders wherever we can.

Not much reason you can't have a little fun while you're at it 😉

From the 1970s to now! 🛁

You've seen the demo, the subfloor fixes, all the steps along the way. Now here's the reveal 😎

Project Catalina was a full-scope job - three rooms, one trip.

✅ Main bathroom - subfloor levelled, bulkhead removed, shower rebuilt, new tile and vanity
✅ En suite - new flooring, vanity, mirror, lighting, exhaust fan, accent tile in the shower niche
✅ Kitchen - two-tone cabinetry, new hardware, pot lights, new backsplash, fresh ceiling paint, granite countertops kept

Three rooms in one go is the part people don't expect. Once our crew is set up in your house, adding the en suite or the kitchen doesn't mean starting over - it's the same team, same schedule, one project.

It also means we catch the stuff underneath - and you already watched us do it. The cracked marble transition and that hu**ed subfloor were sorted before a single tile went down 🕵️

🎤 Siding 25 hours a day! 👷

That's Etienne's math, not ours.😂 He's an exterior estimator here at NorthCo - one of the team who comes out, looks at your house, and tells you what the project will actually take.

We had him run through the questions you keep asking us. What it costs. Whether you can clean vinyl yourself. What replaced dark blue this year. Whether he'd ever take a decaf.

He also brings up that he's partially colourblind. Doesn't slow him down one bit, and our designers are the ones locking in your colours anyway! 😅

Door installation is an art form! 🚪🔥

Cabinet door installation and adjustment - it's one of those steps that separates a kitchen that just works from one that feels premium. Dominic walks us through it, and there's way more happening than you'd think.

Pre-numbered hinges. Soft-close hardware. Height and play adjustments on multiple axes. Every door gets dialed in so it sits flush, closes smooth, and stays that way for years.

This is the detail work that happens at the tail end of every NorthCo project - the stuff that makes your kitchen feel solid when you open and close a cabinet ten times a day.

Water trapped behind your siding? 💧

Today we recap siding strapping - the horizontal wood layer we can install between your wall and your siding, and it does one critical job: creates an air channel so water can drain instead of pooling against your house.

Why does it matter? 🤔

▪️ Stops water accumulation that leads to mold and frame damage
▪️ Extends the life of your siding by years

While it's not standard across the industry, it's an excellent step in helping your home age gracefully! We've all seen what happens when moisture wrecks siding - not pretty.

Prep work wins kitchens 😎

Here's the thing - what happens before the spray gun ever touches a cabinet is what separates a good finish from a great one. Today we're discussing a commonly overlooked step that plays a critical piece in ensuring your kitchen update looks and feels great!

Here's what goes into it:

✅ Deep cleaning + degreasing all surfaces
✅ Caulking gaps, filling gouges, sanding imperfections - because smooth finishes start with smooth substrate

Paper Gun, your wood filler, your putty knife. Edge banding. Goo Gone. Masking plastic for appliances. Each tool does one thing - gets the surface ready for paint to stick and look flawless.

This is the unglamorous part. But it's why your kitchen turns out the way it does.

Backsplash 101 with Nathan 🎨

Project Mackay is moving right along, and today we're diving into one of the most satisfying parts of a kitchen reno - backsplash installation. Nathan walked us through his process, and there's way more strategy here than just slapping tiles on a wall.

Here's what goes into getting it right:

✅ Plan your focal point - center grout lines with the hood fan
✅ Map the entire wall before laying a single tile
✅ Ensure equal pieces on each side of the vent for a flush finish
✅ Work floor to ceiling, then move across to the sides
✅ Account for sightlines from the main entrance

Turns out an hour of planning saves a lot of headaches. Nathan's got the vision locked in, and it shows.
