Big deep window bucks. Sloped sills, integrated back dam. 11" of insulation. Wow.

Some more finishing touches and a solid safety gate/half door so the back door is usable and no one will fall down the nice new stairs. Oh, also the handrail will make it safe to go down. Good!

Had an opportunity to head out to Herrmann's building supply in the town of Curran today. Had a great chat about window flashing details for the Wakefield Heights project. Pretty impressive facility, got the whole tour and left with a bunch of goodies for next week.

The 3rd pic is a display to show that R-value isn't everything when it comes to a thoughtful building envelope.

The material in the center is called Gutex, which is a rigid wood fiber board.
It's hard to see unless you look close but the ambient temperature is actually HIGHER than the internal temperature after being under the heat lamp for about 2 minutes. Notice the other two more conventional insulation boards show much higher internal temperature yet they have a higher R-value per inch.

Hard to capture this with a phone. Plopped a sauna into a garage. Really made the most of the space. Phase 1 of the overall backyard vision. Now we can design the rest of the space around the little alcove to the sweatbox.
