I’ve been working on this absolutely METAL Westone Dynasty Flying V for a customer of mine.

It’s an old shredder built in Japan, which features a double-locking trem system called a Floyd Rose. This feature allows for rock-solid tuning stability through even the deepest dives and bends - there’s nothing quite like it out there 🎸

Yes, yes there are...but I pulled them all off 😈Let me explain why!

Frets are made most often of nickel. Over years of playing, the steel strings on a guitar can carve gouges into the frets, resulting in buzzing and intonation problems. No biggie; the frets can be leveled using a sanding beam, rounded back over, and voila! Gouges R gone.

But a fretboard can only take so many levels and recrowns. After 2-3 of em, the frets become too short and flat to do much of anything with (see second picture). At this point, the only thing to do is pull the frets with a modified set of end nippers, and put in some new fretwire.

And that’s why this old Norman is fretless!

Just finished a full bone upgrade for my Seagull Entourage, Elizabeth, using tea-stained cow bone for both saddle and nut!

I process all the bone I use myself; every single piece is thoroughly degreased, inspected for consistency, and tone tested before being fitted to the instrument.
