Public Advisory: Rama Police Service received a complaint of a suspicious person possibly involved in a driveway paving scam on August 11th 2025 in Rama First Nation.

What Are Paving Scams?
Paving scams typically involve fraudulent schemes where scammers persuade individuals or businesses to pay money upfront for non-existent services, investments, or projects. They may use fake websites, false testimonials, or impersonate legitimate companies to appear trustworthy.

How to Be Mindful and Protect Yourself:

⚠️Verify Credentials: Always check the legitimacy of companies or individuals before engaging or investing.

The City of Orillia is declaring a Significant Weather Event to alert the community that the current extreme weather conditions could pose a danger to users of City roads, sidewalks and bike lanes.

City of Orillia winter control crews remain operational and will be maintaining roads, focusing on main arterials to support emergency vehicles.

Members of the public are asked to avoid travel at this time as roads are currently impassible in some areas.

Municipalities can declare a Significant Weather Event under the Municipal Act, 2001, O. Reg. 239/02, relating to the maintenance of municipal roads, sidewalks and bike lanes. All roadways in the municipality are deemed to be in a state of repair with respect to snow accumulation.

The City will provide updates at orillia.ca and on the City’s social media channels once the Significant Weather Event has ended.

HUGE shout-out 📣 to two local Orillia Businesses that came to our rescue today...after our Office had a very unexpected flood! A giant THANK YOU to Magic Wand Professional Cleaning for coming to extract all the water out of our Carpets...Steam Clean & Disinfect them... Another giant THANK YOU to Cory Clayton Plumbing for a very tricky Hot Water Tank disassembly and replacement. Both gentlemen came to our rescue on short notice, and provided impeccable service! Thank you!
