Siya Forestry is looking for a Senior Field Technician to join the team in the Central and Southern Okanagan.

This primarily field-based role includes road and cutblock layout, field quality checks, timber cruising and supporting project delivery with the Siya Forestry team.

Applicants should have at least three years of experience in multi-phase timber development in British Columbia and be ready to take the next step in their forestry career.

There is great value in getting out into the forest and seeing how others are approaching the challenges and opportunities facing forestry in B.C.

Peter Flett of Nk’Mip Forestry of the Osoyoos Indian Band recently participated in the Southern Interior Silviculture Committee Fall Field Tour in the Nelson area on a non-active forestry site. The tour brought forestry professionals together to explore different approaches to silviculture, partial cutting, wildfire risk reduction, climate adaptation, and building more resilient forests.

"Field tours give us the opportunity to see different forest management practices on the ground, talk directly with other forestry professionals, and learn from what has worked or not worked in the past," shared Peter. "I’m always interested in what we can take from those conversations and apply to the work we are doing in our areas.”

OIB’s Fall 2026 Forestry Newsletter is now available.

This issue shares updates on forest rehabilitation, wildfire preparedness, the Osoyoos Forest Nursery, Tree Farm Licence 59 and community forestry work across OIB territory.

More than 900,000 trees and native plants were planted this year, alongside wildfire risk reduction, FireSmart work and new opportunities for OIB members to build forestry skills and experience.

Representing the Osoyoos Indian Band at UBCM

Dan MacMaster is in Vancouver this week representing the Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB) and West Boundary Community Forest at the 2026 Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Convention.

UBCM provides an important opportunity for OIB to strengthen relationships with First Nations, local and provincial government leaders, forestry partners, and other decision-makers from across British Columbia.

For Dan, those conversations are an opportunity to share OIB’s perspective and priorities, particularly around forestry, land stewardship, wildfire resilience, economic development, and greater First Nations participation in forest management.

The Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB) and the Gorman Group have signed a new agreement for the planning and management of Tree Farm Licence 59. Through Nk’Mip Forestry, OIB will be involved from the beginning, helping guide decisions about forestry activities within its traditional territory.

The agreement also creates new opportunities for employment, training, business development, and greater community involvement over time.
