This house was missing one thing: a proper front porch.

We tore out the tiny existing porch and are replacing it with a much larger platform, designed to support a new roof and completely change the look of the front of the home.

We’re keeping the design modern and tying everything together — the accent decking will relate to the window trim, while the main decking colour will complement the existing brick.

A front porch isn’t just extra space. Done properly, it can completely transform the front of a house.

Small backyards need smarter planning, not fewer features.

The goal is to make every part of the space work harder — good flow, smart placement, and features that don’t make the yard feel crowded.

This is especially important in townhome backyards where a few feet can completely change how the space feels and functions.

Dark decking can look amazing — but in full sun, it can also get brutally hot.

That doesn’t mean composite decking is bad. It means colour and material choice matter more than most homeowners realize.

For this project, the darker boards heat up noticeably more, while the lighter PVC decking stays much more comfortable under bare feet.

If your deck gets a lot of afternoon sun, choosing based on a small showroom sample can be an expensive mistake.

Think about how the deck will actually be used — especially if you have kids, pets, a pool, or like walking barefoot.

Small backyard. Big ideas.

This Mississauga backyard packs a lot into a relatively compact space — a curved two-tone Trex deck, pool, outdoor kitchen, fireplace, retractable ShadeFX pergola, and stonework tying everything together.

The goal wasn’t just to fit more features in. It was to make everything feel like it belonged there.

This backyard was missing something… until now.

At first, it probably looks like we’re digging a pool. Then the concrete goes in, the walls start coming up, and the whole thing begins to take shape.

The final result: a sunken outdoor lounge built around a fire pit — creating a completely different place to gather in this backyard.

Sometimes the best features aren’t added on top of a backyard. They’re built into it.
