We regret to inform you that PlumbRx is going out of business. We strived to provide fast and reliable service to the area, sadly due to unforeseen circumstances this didn’t work out. With the rise in temperatures and the rapid melt of snow, we highly recommend checking the health of your sump pump.

When water makes its way into your home, a sump pumps job is to drain away standing water and prevent flooding and water damage. Make sure you take the time to look over and test your sump pump to make sure it is in good working order. You can test your sump pump by pouring a bucket of water into the sump pit to activate the pump and make sure it's working properly.

Does your house have peculiar pipes?

Follow this quick guide if you’d like to determine what type of piping material you have in your home:

If your home was built between 1970-2005, it likely contains copper pipes, which start out as a bronze color before turning to a deep rust or brown color after many years.

These should last more than half a century!

If your pipes are a grayish metal color, they’re likely galvanized steel.

This variety was popular among houses built before the 1970s.

If you see some white, red, or blue plastic tubing, this material is probably PEX. This variety is popular among plumbers because of its flexibility.

Finally – if your pipes have a black finish, you’re probably looking at cast iron pipes.

Creaky pipes giving you the creeps?

If you’re hearing strange noises in your house, have no fear…

It's not haunted.

You’ve probably just got a case of the creaky pipes.

Hot water running through your pipes will cause the copper to expand, making them grind up against joists and pipe hangers.

Thankfully this is an easy problem to fix!

Just go to the hardware store and grab some adhesive-backed felt.

Cut it into strips, and wrap it around the pipes at the points of contact with each hanger.

Et voila – no more spooky sounds!

Getting totally punctured, dude!

If you're planning on drilling or hammering nails into your walls, it would behoove you to check for water or electrical lines behind the wall before you begin.

This can be done easily and at a low cost using a simple stud finder.

If you accidentally puncture a pipe, you could be looking at a whole slew of issues, such as water damage, and avoidable costly repairs!

Better safe than sorry :)

What steps can be taken to prevent clogged pipes?

A fantastic question that can save you loads of money and time.

We’ve got a simple solution that you can start using today: refrain from pouring oil or grease down the drain after cooking!

You’d be surprised at how many greasy pipes we’ve had to unclog over the years – and in the end, grease isn't the only thing getting poured down the drain… $$$

So try cooking your eggs in the bacon grease instead – it tastes way better anyways!
