Eek! A groundhog (probably) eating buffet style on my veggies every night. It grazed the carrot tops off so I am covering them for the next while.

The hardest part about gardening is accepting things you can’t control. We live in a world where it would be expected that we can control all elements or gardening as if it was a manufacturing plant. If we had perfect soil, perfect growing techniques etc we would be able to overcome the elements Mother Nature throws at us. Every year I have at least one crop that does not grow as well as it did in previous years. I used to go over every aspect of what I might have done wrong…why did the slugs eat all my beats, the Japanese beetle eat all my beans…why did the zucchini plant only give me male flowers? This year I have crazy messed up carrots! Probably the really dry spring followed by heat and then torrential rain. I have now learned that it is what it is, and have to accept that I can’t control Mother Nature.
