I wanted to take a moment and extend an invitation to all those at ONR to drop by this Saturday to watch some youngsters play hockey. Saturday at noon the puck drops with the West Ferris Novice AA Trappers taking on the Atom “A” team from West Ferris.
The concept started when Sloan Schaivo, one of the young players on the Atom team approached me and asked if it was possible that – like the pros in the NHL – his Atom team could also play outdoors in a “Winter Classic” event. Through the hard work of his father – Corey Schaivo as well as Jamie Norman and James Moore – both teams respective coaches – the idea became a reality. Of course – Dan Young truly made this all happen.
Mr. Schaivo solicited some warm beverages from Tim Hortons for the players and parents and even plans to set up a PA system and line the teams up for the national anthem! There are even commemorative t-shirts being printed and I think pucks as well.
The Municipality of Callander is having the lines on the ice painted, bleachers for the parents, and we have Bill Barber Signed Jerseys.
Hockey Canada has fully endorsed the event as has the West Ferris Minor Hockey Association so I believe that some of the Association’s executive may well be present. We would welcome any hockey fans who feel like braving the cold temperatures to drop by and watch these little guys go at it!
