This full kitchen renovation brought fresh new inviting vibes to the heart of this Toronto home. Keeping the layout the same, but fully updating the cabinetry and flooring now presents a whole new space that feels clean, organized, and updated.

Updated features of this renovation:

-All new cabinetry boxes and doors due to the existing cabinetry starting to fall apart and turn a yellowish color. New doors featuring a clean shaker profile and soft closing mechanisms on all doors with crown molding finished trim for the cabinetry installed on top of the upper cabinets

-New Hardwood flooring with subfloor repaired and secured below to provide a warm and inviting space within the kitchen that is free of squeaks. A big upgrade from the original beige floor tile.

-New backsplash to compliment the neutral color scheme of the cabinetry

-New faucet, sink, and door handles

-New quartz countertops for not only the kitchen, but also the moveable small island, and trapezoid shaped window sill

-Patch work to repair the damages to the old lath and plaster walls. New paint applied to both the walls and ceilings for some fresh color

-New baseboard installed within room

Another happy repeat client 👌

(Part #2) Of this Basement finishing project featuring the new Laundry room, Barn doors, and stairs.

Heading down the hallway we come across some great new features within this basement that boost both character and practical usage, first with highlighting the new laundry room. Similar to the floor leveling challenges presented within the recreation area, a lot of leveler was first applied within this room to create a base flat enough to be able to install 12” x 24” porcelain tile.

Being a fairly simple room, the homeowners wanted to add an element of flare and decided to step out of their comfort zone to give this laundry room a lot of personality with a blue calacatta floor tile.

Providing a stylish way of entry to the laundry room along with the furnace room are these beautiful “K” profile sliding barn doors. With a solid wood core, these barn doors carry a lot of weight, and soft close mechanisms were a necessary addition to both rails so as to prevent slamming / damaging of the doors and walls when opening and closing (see videos)

Matching with the vinyl plank flooring are these great new vinyl stair treads installed up the stairway leading down to this basement to give a great first impression when entering from the main floor above. Besides being a perfect match visually, these treads offer a great element of additional foot grip, with the 2 inches at the front of each tread featuring a ribbed profiling for additional safety when using the stairs.

(Part #1) of this full Basement Finishing project completed this past winter, highlighting the main recreation area and bathroom.

Turning what was just a simple storage area of the home into a functional space for the homeowners that now features an area for watching television, working out, and a full 3 piece bathroom.

Determining the best size and layout for the bathroom, along with the basement concrete floor slab being extremely out of level were the two main challenges faced with this project.

With a little creativity, we utilized the space underneath the stairs for the new toilet location while featuring a simple custom built on-site corner vanity within the same space underneath the stairs. Placing both these water features within the same area created a better walking pathway to the shower, and although the bathroom is small it still checks off all the boxes of being a 3-piece bathroom while eating into the TV area space as little as possible.

Due to past water issues underneath the basement concrete slab causing heaving, this floor was looking like a bit of a roller coaster and needed a lot of attention prior to the flooring install. After a very substantial amount of leveler floating, a flexible 6 inch vinyl plank flooring was installed to provide a beautiful + durable floor system that is also completely waterproof.

This basement is now bright and inviting with all the new pot lights installed throughout, and features some additional new beautiful elements down the hallway that will be highlighted in post #2 of this basement transformation.

Approximately 500 square feet of tile installed on the main floor of this Whitby home.

This house was featuring some new homeowners looking to invest in making their new property feel like their own, and upgrading the floors of a main floor is sure to never disappoint

All previous 3/4” thick tile jack hammered up and disposed of, floor leveled where needed, and Schluter Ditra uncoupling membrane installed for assured longevity. Now featuring 12” x 24” grey porcelain, the main floor of this home has a sleek new look from the front door throughout

The second of two full bathroom renovation projects completed in this Brooklyn home. For this project it was all about the adults with the renovation taking place in the upstairs master ensuite.

With there already being a new tub in the upstairs hallway bathroom, there was no longer a need to keep the same builder’s tub as part of the shower configuration. The old tub was removed, along with the ceiling bulkhead to open up this shower and add some much needed head room.

Electing to go with the very popular modern black and white theme in the room, the tile on the shower walls was kept to a classic 16” x 4” subway ceramic so as to let the black accent pieces within the bathroom be the focal point of attention. The best example of this being the beautiful black herringbone tile with subtle grey fading that the home owners chose for the floor. The beautiful pattern of the herringbone installed on the floor of this bathroom grabs the attention of the entering user immediately, and then transitions well into a square 2”x 2” mosaic with matching colour for the shower floor.

Painting the walls of this bathroom continues the black and white theme and mixing in an accent color with the Oak colored vanity brings a cozy modern farmhouse feel into the bathroom.

Maple Master Bathroom (Part 3/3) - Shower and Floor

With the old shower being a source of water leakage to the floor below and a constant eye sore for mould, this walk-in shower was the catalyst to start this bathroom renovation.

The clients using the bathroom were very content with the existing configuration, so the only problems needing addressing were the water proofing and updating of the look in the shower. The base and PVC liner in this shower were completely rebuilt from scratch to fix the leaking issue, and the new shower base was built to feature a one direction flat slope so as to allow for the installation of the large 24” x 12” porcelain tile on both the floor and walls within the shower. Installing a tile-in linear floor drain within this shower adds a great unique feature for water to drain, and the centered strip of mosaic on the control wall gives this sleek modern shower a great accent piece.

Giving this master bathroom a nice feeling of modern flow is the constant continuation of the same black 24” x 12” tile throughout the entire bathroom. However a change in the tile layout to an alternating brick pattern of the floor tile was decided upon to create a slight feel of separation between the straight lay tiled shower and corner tub.

Maple Master Bathroom (Part 2/3): The Vanity

Continuing with another great new feature added to this Maple master bathroom is the new floating double vanity featuring a tall side storage cabinet.

Given the size of this bathroom it was a shame that the original vanity was only installed as a single sink unit. If there is sufficient enough space in a bathroom for a double vanity it is always a decision that no homeowner regrets installing. The look of the vanity in this bathroom went through a major change, but it was also a smart decision by the couple in this home to increase the convenience of using this bathroom together by changing the configuration of the vanity into a double sink unit.

This floating double vanity features a great color scheme of black, wood, and chrome metal to give it a modern feel with a lot of personality. The top mounted black glass bowl sinks are an amazing feature on this vanity that really give it a unique look, and continuing the same backsplash behind the vanity to match the backsplash around the tub brings some razzle dazzle to the room.

Given the available length along the vanity wall, it was a great addition to be able to add a matching tall cabinet beside the vanity for much needed storage of hygienic and toiletry items.

These two tub-shower renovations came out great in this Markham home.

The goal of these two projects was to update the bathrooms of both the spare bedroom and main hallway bathroom upstairs, while keeping the price for the updates as budget friendly as possible.

The existing tile and tubs were extremely dated with an un-appealing flower pattern and brown colour to them. With the homeowners starting to consider the possibility of selling their home they wanted to present bathrooms that had an updated feel which appealed to the most potential home buyers and were move-in ready.

Both bathrooms mimic one another in terms of style and materials installed, with both the tubs, shower faucet unit, and tile replaced. A shower shelf niche was also added in both showers for the always essential shampoo storage.

The vanities in both bathrooms also got a quick upgrade, transitioning from their old laminate counters to brand new quartz. The existing cabinet doors were kept the same, and just had their paint colour touched up. Although these are not full bathroom renovations, It still goes to show how updating the right elements of a renovation project can go a long way in improving the overall feel of a space.

Brooklyn Hallway Bathroom (Part 1): Vanity & Floor

Inspired by the popular modern farmhouse style, this custom wall to wall vanity with shiplap accent wall came out amazing in this second floor hallway bathroom.

The modern farmhouse feel has gained so much popularity due to the style being able to bring both an updated look with a feeling of warmth and coziness to a space within a home. This vanity is an excellent example of this by updating the cabinetry to a shaker profile with an earthy matte jade colour, complimented by the large modern black door handles.

The countertop was updated to an off-white speckled quartz with new sink, and then a pine shiplap painted white was installed up the wall behind the vanity. The earthy brown colours of the mirror with black rail pick up on the farm house vibes perfectly, and also continue the theme of black hardware throughout the vanity area.

The flooring installed was a luxury vinyl flooring, a great material for any bathroom or wet space. This particular flooring selected was a great option for this bathroom combining both the classic look of a herringbone pattern with the modern colour scheme that picked up on the colour pallet of the painted bathroom walls.

Brooklyn Hallway Bathroom (Part 1) - The Shower

The life span of the existing tub in this tub-shower had run its course, prompting the full renovation of this second floor hallway bathroom.

The basin of the existing tub had really become an eye-sore and potential health risk with a lot of rust build up, and the existing tile and low bulk head had this tub-shower feeling tight and unpleasant.

The old rusty tub was swapped for a new acrylic tub with the need for a tub being essential due to the presence of young children in the home. The bulk head of the existing tub-shower was removed for the benefit of the adults using the shower in the home, giving the tub-shower a much bigger feel and look. A new more powerful ceiling fan was also installed in this bathroom, which combined with the much more open shower greatly improved the ventilation of moisture in the room.

The new tile chosen provides a great new sleek feel to this tub shower, and the colour of the tile compliments the wall paint in the bathroom very well. With all the different shower products used between both the adults and children in the home, a custom double shelf niche was installed to provide some much needed organized storage within the shower while also acting as an accent piece to the wall tile.

Completing this Oshawa basement rec room with style, a custom built-in television wall unit featuring an electric fireplace was installed.

Custom wall units like this are such a great addition for any room featuring a television. Wall units are a feature that add a tonne of style, beauty, and functional usage to a space that would otherwise look ordinary and turn it into something unique.

Cabinetry was added to either side of the TV to add storage, and custom shelves with surrounding perimeter millwork were installed above each cabinet to add a great space for pictures and other art work.

These shelves and countertops were made out of high finished grade 3/4” plywood, and then were stained black to give the look of the side units some pop. These stained plywood shelves + counters provide a strong and smooth surface, while still showing the grain of the wood from close view for a traditional feel.

The central unit featuring the fireplace is the true focal point in this project featuring a brick veneer, mantel, wall mounted TV, and the ability for the fireplace to illuminate in different colours. This part of the project was the most challenging, as the fireplace needed to be recessed at the perfect depth inside the wall to finish flush with the brick veneer while still featuring the ability to remove the fireplace for any possible future issue with function.

Custom side pillars extending up to the mantel were installed on either side of the fireplace to finish off the brick of the central unit nicely.

With what was originally an awkward space given the formation of the basement walls, has now been transformed into the perfect entertainment zone for parties, kids, or relaxing in front of the fire watching a favourite show.

Light new tile, dark accents, and a fresh paint job are what makes this bathroom renovation a perfect example of how to keep a renovation beautiful and budget friendly.

This renovation started with an initial need to replace the dated vanity due to water damage. Mainly used by the young adults of the home, this entire bathroom was in need of an update without breaking the bank.

Tile and grout colour were kept clean, light and simple to give a fresh feel to the bathroom. The bathroom was re-painted to a more modern light grey to compliment the new tile colours versus the old baby blue.

Thankfully, the existing bath tub was still in great shape. To avoid unnecessary spending extreme caution was taken during the demo phase to preserve the tub from damages and therefore it was able to be still kept in place.

The real highlight of this renovation is definitely the new vanity with quartz countertop. Removing the small counter mounted tower cabinets frees up a lot more counter space, and gives the bathroom a bigger feel.

Some great finishing features to bring that dark contrast into the room are the showers new black faucet set, the black circular mirrored medicine cabinet, and 7” rectangle bar pulls installed on the vanity doors.

A great quick and simple renovation which provides an updated space for a frequently used bathroom by the kids in the house.
