It’s great to see our latest water main project taking shape! Dan is currently getting the fill loaded to ensure this installation, which climbs right up a rock cliff, is protected for the long haul.

I’ve been sharing the journey of this job to show that while we operate with a smaller excavation crew, we definitely don’t shy away from the larger, more complex work. It’s rewarding to see the team tackle these challenges with such skill. Keep following along as we progress; we’re excited to show you how it all comes together!

Looking back on our Cafe Takeover event this past Saturday at Cafe 356, I’m honestly still feeling so energized by the atmosphere in the room. It was truly heartwarming to watch our entire team at Norm's Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning come together to make this happen, but even more special was seeing the community show up the way you all did.

We set out to support the Forward House Community Society, and I am proud to share some of the highlights from our day together:

Total funds raised for Forward House:$4,470
Complimentary coffee and tea served:144 cups
Number of local business sponsors: 16

That total raised for the silent auction is a number that really speaks to the heart of the Oceanside region, and we are so proud to be able to pass those funds along to help continue the vital work Forward House does for our neighbors. Serving those 144 cups of coffee and tea was our small way of saying thank you for making the day so memorable.

We owe a massive debt of gratitude to the local businesses who stepped up to donate such high-quality items for our auction. People sometimes look at us in the office now focusing on strategy, growth, and making sure everything runs smoothly, and it’s easy to forget that not too long ago, we were just three kids trying to keep up.

My brothers and I didn’t start this journey with a grand master plan to run the family business. We started the same way any kid does: handing tools to the journeyman and just trying to stay out of the way. We’ve spent our fair share of time in the trenches, literally. We know exactly what it’s like to be stuck in a cramped crawl space, sweating it out in a hot attic, or finishing a repair while getting soaked in the rain.

Those days in the field were tough, but they’re also the best thing that ever happened to us. They taught us the real value of hard work and what it actually takes to get the job done right.

It’s been a wild ride to get where we are today. This trade has taken us places we never would have dreamed of when we were starting out, from meeting other dealers at conferences, major sporting events, etc across Canada and the U.S. to me serving on community boards here at home.

Even though our view has shifted from the crawl space to the office, we haven't lost sight of the roots. We’re still just those three brothers who care about doing honest, reliable work. We’re incredibly proud of the legacy we’re carrying forward, and we’re just as committed to taking care of our customers today as we were when we were holding the wrenches.

It’s pretty amazing where this trade can take you. We’re just happy to be on the journey.

We’ve got our excavating team out on a complex water main project here in Nanaimo, and it’s no walk in the park! We’re navigating a 30ft rock wall and prepping for a 40ft concrete cut just to get the job done right.

Stopped by a job site here in Nanaimo today to check in on the team, and I’m always so proud to see our pros in action.

We’re currently wrapping up a full poly-B to PEX repipe—a massive upgrade that gives our clients total peace of mind. For those unfamiliar with the process, this isn’t just a quick fix; it’s a full-system refresh including all water piping, new valves, and fresh supply lines throughout the home.
