🌱 Tooketree Co-Founder Melinda Zytaruk Named to Canada's 2027 Clean50!

Melinda Zytaruk has been recognized as one of Canada's 2027 Clean50 Honourees in the Building category for her work advancing sustainable, affordable housing and low-carbon construction.

Through Tooketree's SEED (Sustainable, Ecological, Efficient, Durable) prefab panels, homes can be built faster, store carbon instead of emitting it, and support greater climate resilience through durable, high-performance building systems.

By openly licensing Tooketree's panel designs, Melinda is also helping communities across Canada explore how to manufacture their own panels and expand access to healthy, affordable housing.

This recognition celebrates the impact of building differently — with climate resilience, community collaboration and housing affordability in mind.

🏡 Looking to create affordable multi-unit rental housing in Muskoka? The District of Muskoka has opened a funding opportunity through the Muskoka Affordable Housing Initiatives Program (MAHIP).

The Multi-Residential Units stream offers:

✅ Up to $100,000 per unit for developers and builders creating affordable multi-unit rental housing. The funding supports new construction or conversions of existing buildings, including schools, churches, retail spaces, and other suitable properties.

Tooketree can panelize multi-unit buildings, thereby lowering construction costs and risk, shortening the construction schedule, and reducing financing costs, while maintaining the flexibility to work with a variety of building designs. Our SEED panels also deliver energy efficiency, durability and long-term affordability for the people who will live in these homes.

Thank you to and for hosting a fantastic Community Land Trust Summit, and for including our CEO/President, Melinda Zytaruk, as a presenter! 🙌

Community land trusts keep land in community hands so homes stay affordable for generations, and this summit showed how to put that work into practice. Speakers dug into non-market housing, collaborative contracting, grassroots activism and the partnerships it takes to get projects built. We were also very inspired by the talks surrounding reconciliation and rematriation, as Indigenous communities should be at the forefront of these conversations. Kudos to the organizers for bringing so many voices together, and to every speaker who shared real lessons from the field.

A truly community-led movement takes all of us at the table, and we’re proud to be part of it. 🏡

We’re thrilled to participate in the 2026 ONPHA Conference happening Thursday, October 29th through Saturday, October 31st, at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel!

This year’s theme, Forward By Design, resonates with us because of our commitment to developing future-ready housing. Housing that is designed to withstand changing weather patterns, flooding, extreme heat, and reduced air quality caused by forest fires and other climate change impacts. Housing led by communities, for communities, to build community wealth and long-term sustainability. The conference offers a valuable opportunity to collaborate with industry peers, policymakers, and government representatives to find real housing solutions for communities across Ontario.

👏 Last week, a few of our team members participated in High Performance Design Meets Boots on the Ground Muskoka. Thank you to all of the organizers and participants for a great night! 🌱

We connected with fellow industry professionals and educators, chatted about SEED panels, and learned from presentations by Ben Lowry, Craig England, Ian MacFayden and Dave Ovcjak. We also put some of our offcuts to good use with a contest to win an artfully forged guitar hook and paddle hook made by our teammate Bet Smith. 🙌

It was a great time had by all; thank you to Passive Buildings Canada for including us!

Exciting to see this Passive House project moving along! It takes a lot of coordination and attention to detail to bring a high performance home together, and we’re proud to see the SEED Building System playing a role in this project.

The Northland Electrical crew has been busy wiring this beautiful Passive House here in Muskoka. Passive homes are built with an incredible amount of attention to energy efficiency, air sealing and overall building performance — which means the electrical installation requires that same attention to detail.

From planning our wire routes and penetrations to coordinating with the other trades, every detail matters when working on a high-performance home like this.

We’re proud to be part of a project that combines modern architecture, energy efficiency and quality craftsmanship — and we have to say, that black exterior is looking pretty sharp with the Northland van parked out front. 😎⚡

From scraps to sparks! 🔥

The highly anticipated High Performance Design Meets Boots on the Ground Muskoka is happening tomorrow, Thursday, October 8, from 6–9 PM, at the Active Living Centre in Huntsville. In honour of the event, local blacksmith and Tooketree team member Bet Smith of Persephone Forge is putting some of our Tooketree offcuts to good use, using them to make a custom guitar hook and paddle hook to give away at the event. 🎸🛶
