Want to improve your chances under Ontario’s Workforce Priority Stream? Language scores could make a BIG difference!

Under Ontario’s OWPS Expression of Interest system, candidates can receive up to 15 points for official language ability, based on their lowest CLB score across Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Candidates may also receive additional points for knowledge of Canada’s official languages.

📌 CLB 9 or higher = 15 points
📌 CLB 8 = 12 points
📌 CLB 7 = 8 points
📌 CLB 6 = 4 points

Improving your language score could strengthen your overall immigration profile and help you become more competitive.

Not sure which Canada PR pathway may be right for you? ICC Immigration can help you explore your options for Permanent Residency, PNP programs, work permits, study permits and family sponsorship.

Canada is increasing the financial requirement for international students!

Starting September 1, 2026, students applying for a Canadian study permit will need to show at least $23,448 CAD in living-expense funds for a single applicant.

That is an increase of $553 from the current $22,895 requirement.

Remember: $23,448 is only for living expenses. Students must also demonstrate funds for first-year tuition and transportation costs.

Students bringing family members will need to show additional funds based on family size.

📅 The key date is the date IRCC receives the application. Applying before September 1 means the existing threshold applies, while applications submitted on or after September 1 will face the new requirement.

If you're planning to study in Canada, make sure your financial documents are strong, consistent and sufficient before submitting your application.

Canada’s immigration levels must be aligned with the country’s ability to provide housing, jobs and healthcare for everyone.

This discussion raises important questions about the growth of Canada’s temporary resident population, expiring permits, unemployment, integration and whether provinces are being properly consulted on capacity.

A balanced and responsible immigration system should work for both newcomers and Canadians. 🇨🇦

British Columbia is prioritizing healthcare and childcare workers for immigration nominations in 2026.

The province has announced plans to nominate 1,620–2,015 healthcare workers and 360–440 early childhood educators (ECEs) by the end of 2026.

📊 B.C.’s total Provincial Nominee Program allocation stands at 6,254 spaces, meaning healthcare and ECE workers could collectively account for 31.7%–39.3% of the province’s nominations this year.

So far, as of August 25, B.C. has invited:
➡️ 474 priority healthcare workers
➡️ 451 early childhood educators
➡️ 925 combined invitations

The province has also identified 31 healthcare occupations as priorities, including nurses, physicians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, medical technologists, social workers and more. 🩺👩‍⚕️

For B.C.’s worker streams, a full-time job offer from an in-province employer is required, followed by registration through the BCPNP system. Successful nominees can then use their provincial nomination to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

Want to know if your occupation could qualify for B.C. immigration? Contact ICC Immigration for professional guidance.

Canada’s Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) rules are facing growing attention over a provision that allows an already-issued permit to remain valid even if the principal applicant later loses their job, finishes studies early, or the couple separates.

But there’s an important distinction: this is not permission to manipulate the system. If false information or a pre-planned arrangement was used to obtain the permit, applicants could face serious immigration consequences, including a five-year ban from Canada.

🇨🇦 Canada has already tightened SOWP eligibility, and IRCC has not announced a specific change targeting this provision.

If you’re applying for a SOWP, make sure your application is genuine, accurate, and based on the current eligibility rules.
