This wasn't a big mess to clean up, but had several safety concerns , which had to be remedied. #1 previous owner had built a deck with sunk- in hottub at the meter, resulting in the meter now being about 2 feet off the ground ( which can easily result in snow and water now being able to run down the meterbox and cause a big kaboom) but also the previous electrician had used only white ( neutral ) cables going up the mast that at the top had lost a big part of their insulationdue to neutral cabling insulation having different ratings and the UV exposure in conjunction with high Voltage caused the insulation to disintigrate.

Additionally I really appreciated the customer letting me work in short shifts on this job as springtime lambing and other farm craziness prevented me from doing this in a single day- yet the owners only had a full day of power down.

Service upgrade done after the old panel had some arcy sparky happening due to breakers being double and triple tapped... and yes the old panel was halfway in the kitchen cabinet. Customer will build a ponywall around it.

Small office building in Miramichi.
Discovered this hack of a job. Previous electrician quite literally cut an old fusebox cover to make it fit. My inspector had a good chuckle and had to take pictures, lol.
Issue being it's extremely unsafe when the staff has to access the panel to reset a breaker and the risk of electrocution due to a missing cover.

I did some quick work to replace the panel.

Examples like these show how important it is to hire qualified electricians with permits.

Small bungalow needed some updating. All rooms had switched receptacles and no ceiling lights... Changed them over to modern LED downlights. Depending on attic access and how it was originally wired this magic can be done without tearing up the drywall!

Was your home built in the 60's or 70's? If so you should schedule an electrical inspection. Some houses built in the 1960s and early 1970s have aluminum wiring instead of the standard copper wire. Aluminum wiring is considered a safety hazard because wiring connections may loosen up over time. Tiny gaps between the wiring and connectors may lead to overheating and possibly fires, especially when appliances and lighting fixtures are plugged into them.
