Landscape fabric, it is not a magic bullet! It is a w**d restriction method, but it still requires some maintenance. Commercial grade landscape fabric also known as geo textile (which is all we use) makes a huge difference compared to the thin stuff you can buy at a home store. But plucking w**ds as soon as they are seen is best practice for keeping it all looking lovely.
This piece of grass for example. Look at how much of the roots are living in the mulch on top of the fabric. If not picked soon enough like this piece. Which is in my own garden LOL! It becomes established enough that its main root has worked its way through the weaving of the fabric. If allowed to happen often and ignored for an extended period the battle is lost.

Over the last while we’ve been working away to bring a neglected piece of land back to a beautiful lake front property.
The over grown shore line had been cleaned/ smoothed out firstly by Salers backhoe then we came in after. We brought in a lot of new top soil to fill all the low spots and smoothing out ready to be a lawn. And I mean a lot of dirt, 300 cubic yards or 15 semi loads! At this time we also made a new 120’ long beach front for the owners to enjoy next summer. We then started clearing out decades of deadfall out from the tree line. Now they can go for nice wander in the woods. Over the coarse of this summer we have also planted over a hundred new trees. Some for privacy some for fruit :)
I should say, this is all before the house has even been started to be built. Lots forethought from this client.
