Yesterday we got rained out and couldn’t finish the stairs to the deck but we planned ahead and had some kitchen cabinet boxes to assemble for the kitchen being installed into the Lady Evelyn cabin. Flip through for some pre production shots of the box build.

Three full weeks of wear before hitting the wash on my pair of Neo Denim 2.0. I’ve been on the job with these pants taking care of trim work and paint prep and the mobility in these pair of jeans has been fantastic. Enough stretch to keep agile but not so much that the pants feel sloppy. These pants fit true to size and have a nice skinny jean profile which I’m a huge fan of. I’ll be sure to post something in another few months time to see how they hold up.

Here’s some pics of the barn beam we used as the mantle in our latest buildout. I had to flatten a 6” portion of the base of the beam in order for it to sit nicely upon the framing created for it. Before running my cordless planer through the piece, care was taken to check and remove any metal from the work area. I was glad I stopped to check the surface again after milling the first quarter inch because I found another piece of old nail that would have surly caused damage to my blades.

I had the pleasure to adventure out onto Lady Evelyn lake for the first time over the winter and one of the stops we made was at a cabin that I built for .teahen and his business partner Scott (I don’t think he’s on the gram 😅) with the help of my brothers .building 🤘🏻 the lake was a completely different place I’m the winter months not only because of the white landscape but, to put things in perspective, Lady Evelyn is controlled by a dam. In the winter months the dam drops the water level over 10’ in order to supply hydro demand downstream on the Montreal river in Latchford, Ontario. Ice dams, massive rock formations and shoals and land where they were normally covered in water just a few months previous were a few of the amazing sights to see travelling out on this lake! Huge thanks to local friends .laurin and .france for taking us out and being our guides to access the lake via backcountry trails on snowmobiles. Your hospitality and knowledge of the area is second to none! Can’t wait to get back to this place soon as there is still plenty to do to finish off this cabin.... a new separation in the loft, a kitchen and an extension on the dock are all in the works for June 2021.

Making these wainscoting boxes has had its challenges. One of which was cutting the trim for the acute angle in the stair panels. The mitre saw can only swing to a max of 60 degrees to in order to cut the 65.5 degree angle I created a sacrificial fence with a 45 degree angle cut on both sides. Now by swinging the saw to 20.5 degrees and aligning my piece on the fence I’m able to cut the 65.5 degree miter. Extra care should definitely be used when making cuts like this as well as having good working knowledge of your tools.

The making of a mitred corner for this wainscoting detail. Pieces are ripped on the angle and then joined together with glue and 23ga pin nails. I used the tape up method to aid in easy assembling while doing this all solo. Slide through to see the process.
