🍂 Did you know why leaves change colour in the fall?

As the days get shorter and temperatures cool, trees slow down their production of chlorophyll, the pigment responsible for their green colour. As the green fades, the yellows, oranges and reds that were hidden underneath start to show.

But have you ever noticed that fall colours arrive at different times depending on where you are in Nova Scotia?

Things like temperature, elevation, sunlight and proximity to the ocean can all affect how quickly the change happens. That’s why one area can be well into its fall colours while another is still looking pretty green. 🍁

Nature’s pretty cool, isn’t it?
