🌿 When Life Gives You Zucchini… You Make More Zalsa

There’s always that one overachiever in the garden. This year at LMH, it’s zucchini—thriving, multiplying, taking over like it’s trying to win an award. Meanwhile the other squashes are out here struggling, looking dramatic, and begging for emotional support.

But zucchini?
Zucchini woke up and chose productivity.

So today I looked at the mountain of green on my counter and thought:
I should probably start selling salsa just to make room… for more salsa.

20 batches later, the kitchen smelled like late‑summer abundance, and I had jars lined up like proud little soldiers. Bright, tangy, spicy, sweet—Zalsa really is the best way to turn “too much zucchini” into “I’m basically a homestead entrepreneur now.”

Today was all about using up as much garden zucchini as humanly possible — and honestly, it turned into the most satisfying kind of kitchen marathon.

Six full batches later… we’ve got 16 gorgeous jars of homemade Zucchini Salsa.

Basil Dehydration Day
There’s something grounding about turning a morning harvest into a year’s worth of flavour. Today was all about rinsing leaves, spinning them dry, and filling the dehydrator trays with that deep summer green.

Low‑and‑slow at 95–100°F keeps the oils intact — and the whole kitchen smells like sunshine and herb beds.

By tonight, these leaves will crumble into jars for winter soups, sauces, and cozy meals when the garden is sleeping. A tiny act of preservation, a big dose of joy.

Raspberry season is in full swing here, and today’s mid‑season pick was enough to fill the kitchen with bright red berries and the promise of jam. After grabbing extra jars from Canadian Tire Martensville(zucchini salsa coming soon), I couldn’t resist bringing home the biggest canner I’ve ever seen.

Hours later: six pints of raspberry jam, sealed, cooled, and ready for the pantry. A small reminder of why I love this rhythm — grow, gather, preserve, repeat.
