Why do newer subdivisions have so many different types of trees?

It’s not just for variety.

Tree diversity is an important part of protecting landscapes from pests and disease.

The emerald ash borer is a great example. Because ash trees were so susceptible, entire populations were affected.

By planting a wider range of species, municipalities and landscape architects can reduce the risk of losing an entire streetscape to one pest.

What if the plans for a project could be brought directly onto the jobsite?

That’s essentially what this GPS system allows us to do.

Architectural and engineering drawings can be loaded into the data collector and localized to the actual site, allowing the team to see where they are in relation to the design in real time.

The system can be used for everything from curbs and trails to playgrounds and shade structures — and even allows operators inside the dozer to see exactly where they are on the design.

It’s a pretty different way of looking at a construction site.

Sometimes the best thing a landscaper can do is NOT finish the landscaping.

This utility box was installed too low and wasn’t level with the surrounding grade.

Rather than finish around it and potentially have to rip everything back out later, the issue was flagged to the client and the landscape finishes were put on hold.

The right trade can come back, fix the box, and then the landscaping can be finished properly.

Catching these issues early saves a lot of headaches later.
