A kitchen floor can look intact while the materials beneath it are still holding moisture.

In this documented Category 2 water loss, a failed dishwasher connection allowed water to travel beneath ceramic tile and affect the plywood subfloor. Moisture readings helped define the affected area before selective removal began.

DESA removed the affected flooring materials and kick plates, protected nearby contents, cleaned and treated exposed structural surfaces, then installed one LGR dehumidifier and three air movers for four days of controlled structural drying.

Professional mitigation does not end with equipment removal. Readings, completed work and any materials outside the authorized scope should all be documented so property managers and residents can make the next repair decision with better information.

If a leak may have reached beneath a finished surface, consider arranging a professional moisture assessment before repairs begin.

Maybe Itโ€™s Time for DESA.

Small issues rarely stay small. What begins as a damp spot, a hidden leak, or a subtle crack can quietly turn into costly damage. The real advantage is prevention. Understanding risks early helps protect your property, your time, and your peace of mind before problems grow beyond control.

Summer storms can test more than your roof.

Heavy rainfall, poor grading, clogged eavestroughs and sewer backup can allow water to enter a basement in several different ways. Once inside, moisture may travel behind drywall, beneath flooring and through insulationโ€”even when the visible surface appears dry.

A proper restoration response goes beyond removing standing water. It includes identifying the source, assessing contamination, extracting water, controlling humidity, monitoring affected materials and confirming that the structure is dry before repairs begin.

Homeowners can also reduce future risk by maintaining eavestroughs, directing downspouts away from the foundation, inspecting exterior grading and considering an appropriate backwater valve, sump pump and battery backup.

If water has entered your property, avoid contact with potentially contaminated water and do not enter areas where standing water may be in contact with electrical systems.

A vehicle impact can compromise much more than what is immediately visible.

On July 29, 2026, DESA Contracting & Restoration responded to an emergency call at a residential property in Brampton after a vehicle struck the entrance area. The collision left debris and damaged building components around an access point used by occupants and visitors.

Our emergency response included removing and disposing of the debris, cleaning the affected area, inspecting the immediate condition of the entrance, and installing a temporary safety railing. This barrier secured the impacted area and helped reduce the risk of injury while a detailed assessment and permanent restoration were being planned.

Temporary stabilization is not the final repairโ€”but it is a critical step in protecting people and preventing an already difficult situation from becoming worse.

If your property experiences sudden impact damage, do not wait for the problem to escalate. Contact DESA Contracting & Restoration for a professional emergency response. Desa Contracting & Restoration

A vehicle impact can compromise much more than what is immediately visible.

In this case, the entrance sustained damage to multiple components, leaving debris, broken materials, and an exposed access point that required immediate attention.

Our first priority was to clear the hazard, clean the affected area, and install a secure temporary barrier. While temporary stabilization is not the final repair, it is an essential step in protecting the property and preparing for a proper restoration.

When unexpected property damage happens, a fast and professional response makes all the difference.

Asbestos can remain hidden inside a property for decades.

It may be present in insulation, flooring, ceiling textures, pipe coverings and other older building materials. When left intact and undisturbed, these materials generally present a low risk. The danger increases when they are cut, drilled, sanded, broken or removed, allowing tiny fibres to become airborne.

Breathing in asbestos fibres can lead to serious diseases, including asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma. These conditions may take decades to develop, which is why prevention matters.

If renovation, fire or water damage exposes a suspicious material:

โ€ข Stop work
โ€ข Do not touch or disturb it
โ€ข Arrange professional testing and assessment

You cannot identify asbestos simply by looking at it.

Save and share this reelโ€”knowing when to stop could prevent unsafe exposure.

What gets checked before asbestos removal continues?

During this walkthrough, the team reviewed the pressure-monitoring system, four negative-air units, HEPA filtration testing, sealed boundaries and the exact limits of demolition.

The inspection also covered the materials and treatments required throughout the processโ€”including a wetting agent for dust and fibre control, final sealant and odour treatment, and asbestos-containing floor tile discovered beneath the sheet flooring.

Professional abatement is not simply about removing materials. It is a controlled sequence in which airflow, containment, equipment and every affected surface must work together.

Every detail is checked before the next stage begins.

If renovation, fire or water damage exposes older building materials, donโ€™t disturb them. Arrange a professional assessment first.

Asbestos safety involves more than removing damaged materials.

When asbestos-containing or suspect materials are disturbed, fibres may become airborne. That is why professional abatement follows a controlled process: isolating the work zone, using HEPA-filtered negative-air equipment, monitoring pressure, decontaminating personnel and completing final clearance testing.

Every step helps protect workers, occupants and unaffected areas of the property.

If renovation, water damage or fire exposes older building materials, donโ€™t touch or remove them yourself. Arrange a professional assessment first.

Contain. Control. Decontaminate. Verify.

Save and share this reelโ€”it could help someone avoid unsafe exposure.

How can professionals confirm that an asbestos containment system is working?

The gauge shown in this video measures the pressure difference between the work zone and the surrounding property. HEPA-filtered negative-air equipment helps direct airflow into containment, reducing the risk of airborne fibres escaping into clean areas.

On the second floor, sealed openings, protected surfaces and carefully positioned ducting extend that controlled environment throughout the affected rooms.

Plastic creates the barrierโ€”but controlled airflow makes the containment system work.

Professional controls. Continuous monitoring. Safer restoration.
