Phil's Waste Services Inc. is seeking a Full-Time Sanitation Technician/DZ/AZ Driver to join our growing team.

This is a diverse, hands-on position that plays a key role in supporting a variety of waste management and environmental services throughout the North Shore region.

Responsibilities Include:

✔️ Commercial garbage collection
✔️ Septic and non-hazardous wastewater pumping and hauling
✔️ Roll-off bin delivery, pickup and servicing
✔️ Portable toilet delivery, pickup and servicing
✔️ Bulk water delivery
✔️ Routine equipment inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs
✔️ Daily reporting, record keeping, and customer interaction

Qualifications:

✔️ Valid DZ Driver's Licence (AZ licence considered an asset)
✔️ Minimum 3 years of commercial driving and/or heavy equipment operating experience
✔️ Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and efficiently
✔️ Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
✔️ Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
✔️ Mechanically inclined and committed to safe work practices

Tomorrow is a very special day for our family - our daughter, Ayla, is graduating from Grade 8! 🎓 🎉

As many of our customers and friends know, Phil’s Waste Services is a family business in every sense of the word. Ayla has been “on the job” with us since she was just a few days old. From riding along with Mom and Dad, helping out around the office and shop, lending a hand at community events, and learning the value of hard work from an early age - she has truly grown up alongside our business.

Watching her develop into the smart, hardworking, responsible, and kind young woman she is today has been one of our greatest joys. We couldn’t be more proud of the person she has become.

Ayla - congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Your dedication and determination have brought you here, and we know this is only the beginning. We can’t wait to see all the amazing things you will accomplish in high school and beyond. The future is bright! We love you and are so proud to call you our daughter. ❤️

📢 Please note that our office will be closing early tomorrow (Friday, June 12th) at 3:00 PM (instead of 4:00 PM) so that our family can attend her graduation ceremony and celebrate this special occasion together.

If you’re in Thunder Bay on Saturday and need a garbage can (or two!) They’re FREE! 🗑️

All homes in Thunder Bay with curbside garbage collection are now using wheeled garbage carts for automated collection. Beginning this Saturday, June 6, if you no longer want your garbage can(s), you can drop off your used garbage cans (empty please!) 🙂 at the Landfill site at 5405 Mapleward Rd., during Landfill hours. Watch for signs on the left before you reach the weigh scales - the drop-off area is in the Administration Building parking lot. **AND ... if you NEED garbage cans for any purpose, we welcome you to take as many as you require!**

The long weekend is upon us, and we’d like to let you know that we’ll be taking a bit of an extended break.

Our office will be closed from Monday, May 18th through Wednesday, May 20th, and will re-open on Thursday, May 21st at 9am.

Our services will continue as normal during this time; however, customers are encouraged to use our After-Hours Drive-Thru Dump Service while the office is closed.

The Drive-Thru Dump is accessible 24/7, with convenient online payment available from your mobile device. Please see the sign posted on the bin for instructions.

✨ HOW TO PARTICIPATE: ✨

• Pick up your free gloves and designated yellow bags from the Town Office or Phil’s Waste Services Inc. during business hours between now and May 9th, or at the event on the day of.

⚠️ Important: ONLY designated YELLOW BAGS are to be used. No other bags will be collected.

THEN:

• Pick up litter around town
• Bring your filled bags to the black bin at Town Hall on May 9 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
• Receive tickets for the BBQ/food and entry into the participant-only prize draws

OR:

• Take a photo of yourself with the bags you collected
• Leave the bags at the curb for the Town of Marathon to collect
• Show us your photo at the event to receive tickets for the BBQ/food and the participant-only prize draws
