NFMC Successfully Completes 2026 FSC® White River Forest Audit

NFMC recently wrapped up its annual, on-site Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) audit for the White River Forest. This comprehensive review verifies that our daily operations strictly align with global FSC® standards. By maintaining these rigorous sustainability measures, NFMC proudly upholds its official FSC® certification (FSC-C120382) for the White River Forest.

For wood buyers, this certification is a guarantee of responsible forestry. It proves that our timber meets the highest environmental standards, which directly boosts market demand and strengthens the value of our local wood supply.

**NFMC's National Forest Week(NFW) Photo Contest Winners**

Drum roll please... 🥁

To celebrate National Forest Week from September 20–26, NFMC hosted its annual NFW Photo Contest! We received 28 fantastic entries, making it a very close competition.

There were so many amazing photos to choose from! Our team voted, and we’re excited to announce the top three photos of 2026.

Today, NFMC attended Thunder Bay’s Inbound Investment Mission, hosted by CRIBE (Centre for Research and Innovation in the Bio-economy).

Our General Manager, Carmelo Notarbartolo, met with potential investors from Canada, Sweden, and Finland to discuss projects and investment opportunities in our local area. Ontario’s Associate Minister of Forestry and Forest Products, Hon. Kevin Holland, was also in attendance.

This initiative aligns with NFMC’s goal to explore economic development opportunities and find innovative uses for underutilized fibre.

Today, NFMC honours the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Also known as , today is a solemn reminder to honour the Indigenous children who endured residential schools, their families, and their communities.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. At NFMC, we are committing to listening, learning, and fostering deeper, more meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities.

In the spirit of healing and education, we encourage everyone to wear orange today.

The MFC committee raised over $13,000.00 to benefit the club. We are proud to support local groups and organizations within our management area through our donations and sponsorships program. 🌲💚

🍔 Community BBQ Fundraiser Success! 🪵

NFMC’s Annual Community BBQ Fundraiser was held on Wednesday, September 9. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support the Marjorie House in Marathon. Together, we raised a total of $555.00 in just two hours! It was a day filled with food, laughter, and an amazing sense of community.

Following the BBQ, NFMC stopped by Marjorie House to present the funds raised from the event to the new Executive Director of the Marjorie House, Jenny Spekking.

This event wouldn't have been possible without our incredible NFMC staff, local organizations, and residents.

Special shoutouts to: Rachelle & Gerard at Marathon’s Your Independent Grocer; Hemlo Mining Corp. for letting us use their BBQ supplies; Al Cresswell for doing a phenomenal job during CFNO’s LIVE ON LOCATION; NFMC's Shawna Fedoruk and Neil McDondald for assisting with the BBQ; Marathon High School(MHS) Principal, Dean Burke, MHS staff, Billy Slade, as well as all the Marathonians and residents from surrounding communities who came out to donate. Every penny will go a long way toward helping others!
