Happy Sunday all !!! A little history for you all , Trucking and excavating has ran in our family for generations and generations all the way back to the early 1940s in Haney before it was even named Maple Ridge. My great Uncles had the first dump trucks around town they were mid 40s 1 ton picks with dump boxes they hauled ,delivered and stored coal from Haney to NewWestminster !!! These are pictures of the top of 256th & 128th Ave in Maple Ridge. This was our family gravel pit formally known as Kirkpatrick Sand and Gravel Ltd. This pit was discovered and founded by my grandfather William Kirkpatrick and my great uncle Les back in late 60’s early 70’s !! They were members of a flying club and while flying over the area they had noticed that the trees were very light in colour meaning they did not have a good root structure indicating a large gravel deposit. Being in the gravel business this struck an interest !!! So They purchased the original 40 acres,then a few years later purchased the next 40 acres and the final section in the early 80s for total of 120 acres !!! Our family business was run here for over 42 years providing gravel to much of the towns roads ,dikes etc . This is where it all started for me what more could a young man ever dream of a 120 acre play ground equipped with pick up trucks ,Dozers, loaders,excavators,dump trucks a full shop and every other tool and piece of equipment I guy could ever dream of !!! At an early age of 14 I started out working and learning the ins and outs of running a gravel mining operation !!! I started out as a shop hand ,then aggregate plant maintenance and on to running various types of equipment and even pit trucks !!! I owe it all to one of my child hood Hero’s my Pops John Kirkpatrick with out him none of this would have been possible,thanks for the endless experience and knowledge pops love always !!! So there it is the back storey to were it all began and here we stand strong today as
