🌿I was lucky enough to be invited by my friend Liz to an evening at Melanie | Trenton, ON Flower Farmer+Florist tonight, hosted by two local real estate agents, and KRISTA BROWN Realtor. We walked through the growing fields, made some fresh bouquets and played a few games. It is hard to believe that Melanie has been working hard, and I mean hard, for over 10 years! I loved learning about her flower farm operation as it certainly takes perseverance and courage to be successful.

🕶Summer container gardening!
Make sure you prune your annuals & feed them with some water soluble fertilizer this week. I use a 15-30-15 throughout the season, keeping it close to my watering area so I don't forget. Yes, you might even find the container on my kitchen island at times...sorry husband of mine 💚

And always fertilize a moist plant, not a dry one-- You will thank me for that tip later 👌

🌱Norfolk County, which includes small communites like Burford and Paris, are rich with a history in to***co farming. Many members of my extended family still live here. Driving past the fields yesterday, the nostalgia was strong, remembering days spent with my grandma Reavely in her garden. They say smells invoke memories, and for me this is always true, especially at this time of the year when the to***co plants are starting to flower! It is part of my childhood and my families story. 🌿

💧Let's talk watering for a moment 💧
Mid July is here, my rain barrel is empty, & we are starting to see signs of drought in some local gardens.
Now is the time for your soaker hoses, so dig them out of the shed.
In some cases, you can utilize an overhead sprinkler, turning it on at 5am>> not midday and not in the evening.

🌲🌲 Trees love a slow, long, deep soak. Place your garden hose at the base of the tree and leave it on for an hour or so.

🕶 In this photo, our Spring planted catalpa whip is showing signs of dehyrdation, struggling just this past week, so we've ramped up the watering can delivery!

🌿Plants & nature are resilient, while adding a little plant love from us will ensure success!
