Today is their final day in Guatemala! We want to once again thank everyone who helped the team to fundraise for this trip! From friends and family buying 50/50 tickets, to our fellow business community for their generous donations.
A very special shout out to Boulangerie La Vendéenne, Nova Scotia Building Supplies 1982 Ltd., and Printers Corner for their support, and a massive thank you to Eastport Financial for organizing the entire experience and opening it up for friends to join them!
The team spent the past two days doing two foot washing sessions where they were able to provide close to 70 new pairs of sneakers to children. They also loaded up a truck and delivered bags of non-perishable food to families living just outside of the dump. Throughout the week they have visited several homes and had bags of supplies and treats to hand out along the way. And they prayed together! 🙏
Barrett had the pleasure of meeting some local Guatemalan volunteer fire fighters and also a group of California Firefighters and their rescue dog “Junior” (he rides sitting in his own seat on flights!! 🥰) who had just finished assisting with rescue in Venezuela’s earthquake aftermath. He’s pretty stoked to be coming home with a new hat and t-shirt they gave him!!
The team had some truly incredible experiences at the school. Barrett got to see their trade shop for the high school students, they took part in an academic award ceremony, were served lunch by the high school hospitality students, took part in devotionals, and got to meet our new sponsor child.
If you have a group, organization, or business who has ever had a desire to do something like this, we cannot recommend it enough. It is a well run organization and they have everything from fire departments to businesses to church groups who come throughout the year. Anyone who is ever curious - I know Barrett would be happy to answer questions! He and his traveling companions are leaving more blessed by the experience than those who they are saying goodbye to there.
