It’s hard not to feel behind in this season when life is so busy, but the days are slow. But I’m grateful for having time with my family and for the small things we have accomplished each day ☀️ it’s been a good lesson in focusing on what brings joy, celebrating the small things, and letting go of unrealistic expectations 😆

I told Kelly that he could cut the pieces for the cold frame, and I would put it all together. But he ended up just going ahead with the project anyhow (no surprise there), so now I am starting to put plastic on the frame. I’ll be doing the same things on the sides before putting the crates in there to protect them from the cold nights.

Next year, I’ll be starting my first sowing of snapdragons in my regular 2 inch soil blocks with two per block (this is what I did last year for a lot of seeds). I will, however, use these mini blocks for a second sowing later in March since they won’t need to be in the blocks as long ☺️

The next stage of the experiment has begun. I’ve moved my pre-sprouted corms over to the crates today in hopes that our unseasonably warm winter weather will be beneficial in my attempt to get these anemones and ranunculus blooming by the first weekend of May. I’ll be sharing a few move clips on the process. At this time, I’m mostly concerned about sufficient light and managing the risk of rot.

Part 2 of the experiment means putting these plumped up corms in a cool, dark space for a couple weeks to sprout. I’ll soon be moving the crates these will grow in into the pump house for transplanting.

Part 1 of the anemone experiment 😬 I begin by soaking my corms for four hours so they can double in size and be ready to go into a tray of moist soil mix to sprout. I will be going through the steps for starting these beautiful flowers and updating on how the experiment goes. Fingers crossed I will have blooms by the last week in April 🤞 since she’s getting married the first weekend of May.
