Saw this beauty down in Mexico today

Can you count all the safety concerns? Hahahaha

It's a good reminder why we have safety codes in Canada. Wow-ee!

Have a safe day out there

Today's the day before we go on holidays, and we ran around tying up some loose ends on jobs

In this particular job be homeowner wanted us to relocate this existing armored cable feeding the switch it was originally halfway into the wall and didn't really make sense

Then she had us build this 4 ft down rod onto the ceiling fan and replace the remote control

And finally I installed a new over the range hood fan microwave for her, and the venting all needed to be rebuilt

Just a bunch of small things but sometimes it's nice to do stuff that is only electrical adjacent. Change of scenery! Hahaha

Have a great week everyone

Next time you're in your attic, take a look around at the different vent lines you see. Some are for bath fans, others for your cooktop hood fan or some other purpose.

If they look like the first photo here, they are wrong. This flexible white tubing is meant to connect your dryer to the vent socket in your wall, and for nothing else.

Tubing in the attic needs to be insulated, so any condensation in the pipe doesn't freeze, and some jurisdictions are returning to hard pipe because it gives a further flame spread protection when house fires use the bath fan tubing as a roadway into the attic

Have us out to assess and repair your venting today!

Have a great day everyone

This isn't JUST an "out with the old" post!

We discovered that these eoutlets were fed with a two wire ungrounded circuit, meaning this "1972" home is actually quite a bit older.

There are three ways Canadian Electrical Code allows us to solve this human safety issue:
1. Pull a new cable,
2. Wire a bonding conductor point to point, and then back to the panel,
3. Provide GFCI protection to the circuit.

We chose option 3. If you ever use this method it's good to note that the test button and a plug tester test button won't trip the outlet

Well it looks like Sally from Nightmare before Christmas, but we put back our own drywall cuts!
This is something I wish more electricians would offer to do. We don't need to tape it or paint it, but close it up, folks!

Good morning folks

It has been brought to my attention by multiple people that this van has been attached to some ne'erdowell activities in Kelowna and it doesn't seem to have license plates on it

To be clear I sold this van to a wrecker, who has apparently repaired the engine and sold it, but didn't remove my decals. This was a condition of the sale and we will be exploring legal actions against the wrecker

To anyone affected by the people in the van, and to the other business who I've blocked out in this photo, please understand that I had intended for this van to enjoy a quiet retirement in a yard with other vehicles, and to never see the road again.

I hope you're well, people of Kelowna

Good morning folks

Did you know the Canadian Electrical Code requires clear labeling at every point where practicable?

In a residential setting this means your panel should be labelled clearly so future users can turn circuits off with confidence that they will be safe to work on equipment

I personally prefer using a label maker over my own chicken scratch on your panel

What do you think?
