So this may be alittle confrontational but I feel it finally needs to be said. It seems like every week there's a new fly by nighter with a princess auto stump grinder pop up on market place, charging penny's for what's literally a half assed job. Some are evening offering a "grind flush with the ground", well if that was even a thing then a chain saw and 5 minutes would get the job done. You know what happens when you grind a stump flush with the ground? After the first winter it's already above the ground because the frost all winter makes the ground fluctuate, so in the spring you have a stump above ground level again.
There's people charging $120 for a 24" round stump, we're not in 1990 anymore people. These people need to figure out how to price a job so it can cover their equipment and pay themselves a decent wage. You can tell just by the descriptions in their ads, you are literally paying penny's for work that's worth penny's. Nobody that knows what they are doing and does a good job is going to leave their house and bring their equipment to make 60 dollars, but that's what I've been seeing alot this year.

I don't know about anybody else but I don't work for free and I don't plan too. I definitely won't try to compete with 1990s prices. I've done 1000s of stumps over the last 4 years and not 1 was as cheap as I see other people advertising for today.
So if you want a good job that's done right you'll have to pay for what it's worth. I wouldn't want to be the customer paying a cheap 60 bucks this summer to have a half assed job done just to pay a guy next summer to do it right, but if that happens I'll be here. Or you know, you could pay what its worth the first time so it is done right.

Good work isn't cheap and cheap work isn't good. Have a good day!

For the ones with gravel/dirt driveways. If we get the amount they're calling for tonight (15-20cm) I'll be out plowing, we've had rain for 3 weeks. Not a thing is close to being frozen. That being said, I will make sure your driveway is accessible but it will not be a neat and tidy job. It will be more pulling and pushing snow than blowing snow, because blowing snow will most likely end up being more gravel and sod than snow. If we don't get the 15 cms and only end up with around 5cm I may not do some or all of the gravel driveways, (doing your property a favor) as the temperatures are all above zero for the days after the storm and it will melt.

Just wanted to put that out there, some people may rather it not get done. While others will. Either way if the road plow goes out, the ends of the driveway will be done regardless of the amount of snow we get.

Winter will be here befor we know it!
If you are looking for snow removal in the areas pictured, I have room on my list for a few more.

(Seasonal contracts) provide snow removal for amounts of snow above 5cms and clean ups after the road plow has been by after the storm is over.

(Per storm) clean up's are paid by storm and are done after the storm is over and final plow has gone by.

Below are pictures of the areas I can take on the most new contracts as I currently have most of my contracts in these areas.
Reasoning for keeping a tight area is so it stays possible to provide excellent service.

The more travel time and distance away from 1 end of the route to the other provides slower service which is the opposite of what I try to accomplish. If you live just slightly off the map shown, send me a message or call, and I'll see if its possible to add you to this year's snow removal as well.

I'm looking forward to gaining more customers and serving my current customers again this year. Thanks alot for the continued support.

Flower beds all re done, stripped of weeds, and bad soil. Landscape fabric layed down and replaced with new soil and added mulch.

Yesterday and today's job completed. Bushes and stumps removed from one side, flower bed that was no longer wanted removed on the other side and a skim coat of soil and seed on the whole front lawn.

Not the typical post for my page but it's well worth sharing.

Food for thought … think about this … small business owners are most often just 1 person … this says it perfectly. Be kind when they need to re-arrange the schedule to allow themselves an extra day off …. Be accommodating… typically things are not a matter of life or death if other arrangements need to be made. Remember that they are just 1 person …

The unfortunate truth of owning and running a business.

Running a business is really hard.

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.

Friends and family will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.

You have to worry about if you forget to email/message or call someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages, emails and phone calls.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work life balance. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner... All while being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend... it’s one of the hardest things you will try and balance. If you give your time, you will sacrifice financial benefit. If you strive for financial benefit, you will have to sacrifice your time. It’s just the way it goes when your business is relying on you to survive and you’re relying on your business to provide!

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.

Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient, support small businesses... and hopefully more of us will stick around!
