At Bre-Ex, our strength comes from the people behind the work. Today weāre spotlighting Maicon āMikeā Da Silva, Project Manager. You may recognize Mike as heās playing a critical role supporting our downtown sewer expansion project.
Mike brings a global perspective and a lifelong connection to construction. From working on residential builds in Brazil to managing complex projects here in Canada, his journey reflects a deep commitment to growth, learning, and getting the job done right.
Q: Can you tell us about your journey into construction and what brought you to Bre-Ex?
A: Iāve been around construction since I was a kid. My father built over 100 houses in Brazil, and Iām proud to have been involved in several of them. I earned a 100% scholarship for my Bachelorās degree in Civil Engineering, became a licensed Civil Engineer in Brazil in early 2016, and went on to start my own home-building company with a strong focus on sustainability.
Always seeking growth and new challenges, I moved to Canada and completed a post-graduate program in Construction Project Management in 2023 at Fanshawe College. During my studies, I closely followed Bre-Exās major downtown projects. In September 2023, I joined Bre-Ex as a Junior Project Coordinator. It has been an incredible learning journey, and Iāve been fortunate to work alongside talented professionals while contributing my skills, experience, and values to the team.
Q: What has the transition been like stepping into your role as a Project Manager?
A: The transition has been smooth and rewarding. Each step into the role brought increased responsibility but supported by an incredible team of professionals who were always willing to share their knowledge and experience. With such a strong team behind me, Iām confident in taking on any challenge.
Q: What is the favourite part of your current role?
A: Ensuring our projects move forward in the most efficient and safest manner possible is what I enjoy most. Our work often makes people stop and take a moment to watch our team in action, and being part of this work is truly a privilege.
Q: How has your background and experience shaped the way you approach your work?
A: Understanding how to build and being able to anticipate challenges before they arise has shaped the way I approach every project.
Q: What advice would you give to someone starting a career in construction or considering joining the Bre-Ex team?
A: Be proactive, work hard, and never stop learning. Bre-Ex is always busy and offers many opportunities for growth.
Weāre proudāand truly gratefulāto have strong, dedicated people like Maicon on the Bre-Ex team.
Weāre always looking to add people to our team who want to build their skills and grow their careers, just like Mike. If that sounds like you, give us a call or reach out to learn more.
