Matter Architectural Studio Inc. (MAS) is a London, Ontario based group of Architects, Designers, and thinkers operating within the ﬁeld of architecture and design. In order to deliver complete client satisfaction we encourage our clients to collaborate with the design team to share ideas, passions and personal expertise to reach a creative, contextually responsive solution. Since our establishment as an Architectural Practice in 2015 we have seen positive growth in both oﬃce size and project
complexity. The YMCA of Three Rivers in Guelph underwent a transformative interior renovation (3 Phases), with the goal of enhancements to their already flourishing recreation and community spaces.

The design thoughtfully integrates a comprehensive suite of program elements, including upgraded accessibility features and universal change facilities, multipurpose rooms, a dedicated youth space known as The Grove, a community kitchen, dance and yoga studios, fitness areas, administrative offices, and an enhanced entrance sequence complete with a fully renovated reception and welcome kiosk.

The renovation positions the facility as a dynamic and responsive community hub, providing vital services and programming focused on health, wellness, and social engagement. By combining flexible, functional design with a focus on accessibility, wellness, and community connection, the project establishes a facility where individuals of all ages can access the support, engagement, and sense of belonging central to the YMCA’s mission.

Today marks an exciting milestone as we celebrate the topping off of the Middlesex County Governance and Administration Building, a major step forward in the construction process and a proud moment for everyone involved.

Reaching this stage is more than just placing the final structural beam; it represents years of collaboration, dedication, and shared commitment from the entire project team. Seeing the building rise is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact this facility will have on the community for years to come.

We are truly delighted to be part of this achievement and grateful to our partners, trades, consultants, and the County for their continued trust and teamwork. This milestone brings us one step closer to delivering a space that will serve Middlesex County with purpose, quality, and pride.

The Elite Performance & Injury Centre (EPIC) will be a 175,500-square-foot sports and training facility designed to support athletes across Southwestern Ontario. The centre will include two ice rinks, a high-performance gym, physiotherapy and medical spaces, and a wide range of training and recovery amenities all brought together under one roof.

EPIC will offer access to top-level sports medicine, physiotherapy, customized training programs, chiropractic care, mental performance support, and advanced recovery tools. While some areas will be used by partner organizations, the facility will also be open to individuals and teams. Users will be able to book ice time, meeting rooms, training spaces, recovery areas, skating treadmills, shooting lanes, and even golf simulators.

With 40 years in architecture, Fred has left his mark on some of Toronto’s most iconic projects, including Union Station, St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica, and heritage conservation work at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario Building at Queen’s Park.

Fred brings not just experience, but a true passion for mentoring and collaboration. He thrives on supporting our team in producing carefully coordinated contract documents, always encouraging a balance between function and form. For Fred, the best projects emerge when design ideas and technical ex*****on exist in harmony, a philosophy that aligns perfectly with how we approach every project at matter.

London Sports Group – New Indoor Sports Facility

The proposed development introduces a purpose-built 122,000 sq. ft. indoor sports facility, designed to support both high-performance athletics and community recreation. Anchored by approximately 102,000 sq. ft. of indoor turf fields and complemented by 20,000 sq. ft. of administrative and support spaces, the facility is envisioned as a dynamic hub for sport and wellness. The overall site strategy also integrates two new outdoor sports fields, reinforcing the project’s role as a comprehensive recreational destination.

Bringing thoughtful design to the Foxwood Neighbourhood. This proposed development at Wharncliffe Rd. S. and Savoy St. introduces a modern, pedestrian-friendly commercial plaza with seven units.

A vibrant streetscape, integrated pathways, and a welcoming public square create an inviting space for both businesses and the community. The rhythmic façade blends contemporary architecture with functionality, shaping a dynamic gateway to the area.

Enhancing research capabilities through thoughtful design. At the Robarts Research Institute, we integrated the Bruker 15.2T preclinical MRI within a biocontainment level 2 facility, one of the most advanced ultra-high field MRI platforms in Canada. This $1.5M renovation includes specialized lab spaces, upgraded infrastructure, and a custom DNA-inspired feature wall, reflecting our commitment to advancing scientific discovery.
