Buying a house with a fireplace or wood stove? Ask for a WETT inspection before you waive your conditions.

Sellers aren't required to prove that a wood burning fireplace is up to code, and plenty of buyers find out after closing that theirs can't be insured.

A WETT inspection tells you whether that fireplace is compliant. More insurance companies are requiring one before they'll cover the home, so you want it done while your conditions are still in place.

That's exactly what a WETT inspection prevents. WETT stands for Wood Energy Technology Transfer, and it's a certified inspection that confirms whether your wood burning fireplace, wood stove or insert is up to code.
