Ready to maximize your curb appeal with minimal effort? Harry's quick tip for selecting garden plants in the London & Strathroy area: Choose perennials that are native or proven performers! 🌿

They need less maintenance and are built to handle our local weather. A great industry trend is using drought-tolerant selections—save water and save your back! 💪

P.S. Don't forget that layer of fresh mulch! It's the ultimate tool for w**d control and keeping those roots happy and hydrated. 💧

After slit seeding, you'll want to wait 3-4 weeks for the new grass to reach 3-4" inches in height before cutting your grass.

Best practice is to cut your grass at 1-2" before slit seeding.

This way, you not only ride out the time for the new grass to grow without existing getting to unruly, you also level out any lumps in your yard and won't scalp anything for the rest of the season when you resume cutting at 3-4".

Don't cut your grass 2 days before a Fiesta application and wait 2-3 days after to cut. Otherwise you won't get the expected results of the Fiesta Spray.

The plant's leaves, petals, bulbs and seeds are toxic to humans, dogs and cats causing vomiting, diarrhea, and cramping if ingested, while touching the plant can cause rash and irritation. Experts suggest mowing over the blooms before it goes to seed.

In Ontario, it's generally safe to start cleaning up gardens in mid-to-late April, but the exact timing depends on the weather. A good rule of thumb is to wait until temperatures consistently stay above 10°C (50°F) during the day. This ensures that overwintering pollinators like bees and butterflies have had a chance to emerge from leaf litter and plant stems.

By late April or early May, you can begin:

Raking leaves and debris

Cutting back dead plant material

Dividing perennials

Preparing soil for planting

If spring is colder than usual, it’s best to delay cleanup a bit to avoid disrupting beneficial insects and plant growth.

On that note, book your garden cleanups with me now. I'm starting booking for around April 15, 2025.
