A true before and after! ✨

By stripping back the original stone and heavy wood mantel, we made way for a towering, floor-to-ceiling focal point. The new design pairs a sleek, dark base with a striking copper trim and warm vertical wood slat paneling to draw the eye up - emphasizing the vaulted ceilings and modern, statement chandelier.

It’s all about layering texture and striking the right balance of contrast.

Form follows function. We kept the exterior of this ADU intentionally modest. Rather than focusing on ornamentation, we prioritized how the structure interacts with its surroundings.

The covered porch serves a dual purpose: it breaks up the massing of the simple gable form, but more importantly, it extends the square footage. It provides a dedicated spot to sit and take in the scenery, protecting the entry from the weather while framing the landscape.

Simple lines, durable materials, and a layout designed for living—not just looking.

It’s one thing to create a beautiful 3D conceptual design; it’s another to build it flawlessly in reality.
In this project, our client mentioned that he can stare at the finishes "as closely as I want," and still can't find a flaw. "It just looks perfect." That is the exact level of ex*****on and attention to detail we aim for on every single job at Opal Building Co.

Weather is one of the biggest variables in construction, so we decided to take it out of the equation.

By prioritizing the shell and flying clear-span trusses early, we created a dried-in environment before the foundation work was even finished. This allowed us to install critical systems—like the sub-floor insulation and radiant heating lines—without worrying about mud or moisture.

Pouring the slab under a finished roof means superior climate control and zero weather delays. It’s all about strategic sequencing to deliver the best possible product.

We love the interplay of textures in this finished home. From the cool, smooth touch of the countertops to the organic warmth of the wooden accents and the ribbed detail on the light shades, every surface tells a story. In this testimonial, our client shared, "When we met... it just clicked really well." 🤝

For Phase 1 of the Wellington residence, we worked closely with the homeowners to turn their raw "concrete pit" into a bright, functional extension of their living space.

We didn’t play it safe with the design. Instead, we embraced the client's unique style to maximize storage in a tight footprint while flooding the space with light and integrating unique materials and bold colour palettes.

Phase 1 is down, and we’re looking forward to Phase 2!

The Challenge: Building an ADU on a site with adverse soil and a water table only 3ft down. The Solution: Uncompromising Engineering.

We couldn’t take chances with this foundation. We drove 17 helical piles (some reaching depths of 100ft+) and tied them into grade beams reinforced with heavy 20M rebar. Topped off with full insulation and waterproofing, this structure is floating on a fortress of steel and concrete.

Sometimes the hardest, and most important work is the part no one gets to see.
