The Bitter Truth: A Premium Brand Can’t Save a Bad Installation 👎
Look closely at these photos from a service call we ran yesterday. This is a premium, top-tier heat pump manufactured by one of the most famous names in the industry. It’s less than a year old. Total cost to the homeowner? Thousands of dollars.
Current status? Completely dead, empty of refrigerant, and sinking into a hillside.
When we arrived to diagnose the "no cool" complaint, we were shocked by the structural negligence. The home sits right on the edge of a valley slope. Instead of engineering a solid, level, retaining foundation for a massive 98.5KG (217LBS) machine, the installer simply threw a pad onto loose, shifting dirt. As you can see, the ground underneath washed away, leaving the pad hanging over empty air and cracking under the weight.
The Technical Breakdown:
The Level Test: our level shows just how dangerously skewed the unit has become. When an inverter compressor operates off-level, it alters the internal oil migration, putting immense mechanical stress on the system.
The Electrical Error: Inside the cabinet, the digital control board was flashing an E3 Error Code—the system's cry for help to protect itself from running dry.
The Fatal Flaw: We checked the system pressure. It was absolute zero. The previous installer didn't bother to conduct a meticulous leak test or ensure tight joints during commissioning.
The Core Lesson for Homeowners:
You can buy the most expensive, famous brand-name model on the market, but if it is installed poorly, it will fail prematurely. Conversely, you can take a budget-friendly, simpler brand, install it with absolute technical precision, level it perfectly, seal it air-tight, and it will run flawlessly for over a decade.
Because proper remediation requires a complete structural rebuild of the base, a comprehensive leak search, evacuation, and a full factory refrigerant recharge, the correct repair is unfortunately going to be a significant expense. The customer is currently reaching out to the original installer to see if they will honor their work.
