A little piece of Ontario furniture history has entered the shop.
This beautiful antique sideboard still carries its original Knechtel Furniture Co. Ltd. label, identifying it as coming from the company’s Walkerton factory.
Inside, we found even more of its story—dovetailed drawers, old factory markings and the wonderfully simple designation No. 34½.
It has clearly lived a life. The finish is worn, some hardware has been replaced, and more than a century of bumps, scratches and repairs have accumulated along the way.
But the bones are beautiful.
Dark carved details, bow-front drawers, wonderful proportions and some very promising wood hiding beneath that tired finish.
No. 34½ is about to begin its next chapter.
We already have a direction in mind, and we’ll be documenting the transformation as we go.
And yes—when the work is finished, this one will be looking for a new home.
