The dining room at Siksika Recovery Community was built using plant-manufactured modular construction. The exception is the section that brings in daylight: a band of windows set high on the wall, near the roofline, which was finished on site rather than built in the plant. With limited room for windows at eye level, that high band of windows is the main source of natural light in the room.

Since 1928, thoughtful design and lasting relationships have guided our practice.

Today, we are proud to introduce ARC28 Architecture + Interior Design.

Our new name reflects who we are today: five partners and a talented team delivering architecture and interior design across Alberta and beyond. It signifies the diversity of our people, the breadth of our expertise, and the growing reach of our work.

Our identity has evolved, but our commitment remains: meaningful partnerships, thoughtful design, and places that strengthen communities.

ARC28 honours our legacy while looking confidently ahead.

Thank you to our clients, collaborators, staff, and communities for being part of our journey. We look forward to creating places that matter for generations to come.

Phoenix Safe House was designed for the Medicine Hat Women's Shelter Society, relocating the shelter's daycare out of the basement and into a bright, purpose-built space. Timber beams, a warm wood ceiling, and large windows shape the room, along with a distinct roofline feature above the kitchen.

It's become a favourite gathering place for the shelter's youngest visitors.

The upper floor at Casa is framed entirely in glulam mass-timber and wood decking, chosen to bring lightness and warmth in contrast to the cast-in-place concrete and block construction below. That contrast lines up with specific rooms in the building: the community theatre, gallery, and kiln room are opaque and inward-looking by design, with little or no transparency, while the studio, corridor galleries, and circulation spaces upstairs are brighter and more open.

The timber doesn't stop at the walls. The same wood structure and decking extend outside onto the upper patio overlooking Galt Gardens and wrap the building's soffits and fascias, and the Conservatory classrooms are clad in wood paneling that continues into matching wood-clad volumes on the exterior.

For the renewal of Lethbridge Polytechnic's Student Health & Wellness Centre, the goal was an environment that feels welcoming, supportive, and free of stigma, so students can seek help with confidence and comfort.

Warm, natural materials and intuitive space planning were the main tools: an environment that reads as welcoming, accessible, and professional at once. Privacy, acoustics, and the arrival experience all got particular attention.

Today the centre gives students a modern, inclusive environment to access physical and mental health services, and staff space designed around their own operational needs.

Most boarded soccer fields double as multi-use courts, often shared with hockey. The field at Shift Community Recreation Centre in Coaldale isn't one of those. It's borderless, using line markings instead of boards, closer to how an outdoor pitch plays, and purpose-built for indoor soccer and lacrosse rather than retrofitted for multiple sports.

The interior stays smooth on purpose, including through the bench area, to cut down on injuries during play and allow quick substitutions. Glass protects spectators and keeps balls contained. Two drop-down curtains can divide the field into three smaller sections for other activities or practices.

Coaldale's sports community and the Town were consulted throughout the design.
