☀️ Fun Fact Friday! ☀️

Did you know that the more solar panels you install, the more you're protecting yourself from future electricity rate increases? 💰⚡

Every extra panel generates more of your own clean energy, meaning you'll buy less power from the grid over the life of your system. That can also shorten your payback period, especially as BC Hydro rates continue to increase over time.

🏡 Not ready for a large system? No problem!

You can start with as little as a 5 kW solar system to secure your eligible BC Hydro solar rebate, then expand later as your budget or energy needs grow.

🔋 Our preferred modular system is designed to make future expansions simple, whether you want to add more solar panels, battery storage, or both.

💡 Investing in solar isn't just about saving money today, it's about protecting yourself from tomorrow's rising energy costs.

🔆 TIP TUESDAY 🔆

When most people think about solar, they focus on the panels. But did you know that proper installation is just as important as the equipment itself?

Before a single panel goes up, our team carefully:
✅ Locates roof structure and attachment points
✅ Installs mounting hardware designed for our coastal climate
✅ Ensures proper waterproofing and flashing
✅ Plans panel placement for maximum energy production

A quality installation helps ensure your solar system performs reliably for decades while protecting your roof.

Our crew is hard at work on another Vancouver Island solar installation! 👷‍♂️☀️

⚡ Fun Fact Friday ⚡

Did you know? Most power outages aren't caused by electrical equipment failures, they're caused by things like fallen trees, high winds, vehicle accidents, and severe weather.

Here on Vancouver Island, storms can leave homes without power for hours or even days. While utility crews work hard to restore service, having a backup power solution can make all the difference.

🔋 A battery storage system can keep essential circuits running during an outage while also storing excess solar energy for later use.

⚡ A standby generator can automatically power your home when the grid goes down, keeping your lights, fridge, and other important appliances running.

Power outages are unpredictable, but your backup plan doesn't have to be.

⚡ Tip Tuesday: BC Hydro Rate Changes = Opportunity to Save (If You Plan Smart)

BC Hydro is updating its self-generation (solar) rate structure starting July 1, 2026. This will change how homes are credited for excess power sent back to the grid.

Instead of full retail “net metering” credits, new systems (and most rebate systems) will be on a self-generation rate that pays a fixed ~10¢/kWh for excess electricity exported to the grid.

So what does this mean for you?

It comes down to one key strategy:
👉 How much of your solar power you use vs. export

💡 Here’s how to maximize savings depending on your situation:

🔋 1. If you’re a high daytime user (home during the day)
You’re in the best position.
Size your system to match your daytime usage so you use as much solar power directly as possible. This gives the highest value per kWh.

🔋 2. If you’re away during the day (most homeowners)
Focus shifts to:

Running appliances on timers (dishwasher, laundry, EV charging)
Adding battery storage to capture excess solar for evening use
This helps reduce reliance on lower export credits.

🔋 3. If you’re thinking about going solar soon
System design matters more than ever:

Oversizing = more exports at lower rates
Right-sizing = more self-consumption = better ROI
Batteries = more control over when you use your energy

⚡ Bottom line:
Solar still makes strong financial sense in BC—but the biggest savings now come from using your own power, not exporting it.

We can look at your home’s usage and design a system that maximizes your savings under the new structure.

☀️ Tip Tuesday ⚡

Did you know adding a battery to your solar system can help you use more of the power you generate yourself?

On a net metering system (BC Hydro's self-generation system), extra solar energy is sent back to the grid for credits, but with battery storage, you can store that energy to use later as well!

This can help with:
🔋 Backup power during outages
🌙 Using your solar energy at night
⚡ Reducing reliance on the grid
📈 Preparing for future utility rate changes

Solar + storage gives homeowners more energy independence and control over their power.

⚡ Fun Fact Friday ☀️

Solar panels don’t suddenly “wear out” they very gradually lose a small amount of efficiency over time. This is called power degradation.

Most modern panels degrade slowly, but quality really matters when it comes to long-term performance.

Our go-to panel right now, the Longi Bifacial 500W modules, have an excellent long-term performance profile. From year 2 through year 30, they only experience about 0.4% power degradation per year.

What that means in real terms:
• Your system still produces strong output decades later
• The drop in performance is very gradual and predictable
• You’re locking in reliable energy production long-term

Solar isn’t just a short-term savings upgrade, it’s designed to perform for 25-30+ years with very minimal decline.

⚡ Tip Tuesday ⚡

Avoid plugging high-power appliances like space heaters, microwaves, or air conditioners into power bars or extension cords ⚠️

These appliances draw a lot of power and can overload power strips, creating a fire hazard. Experts recommend plugging high-wattage appliances directly into a wall outlet whenever possible.

A properly protected and professionally installed electrical system helps keep your home safer and your equipment protected. 🔌🏠
