One must always remember that within impossible is I'm possible when we break it down into manageable pieces. You can't lift a large bale of hay off someone trapped under it but if you cut the strings you can save them one piece at a time! Life is about perspective and we need to learn how we change that by changing where we stand when we look at a "problem"

For many years, Algonquin College has provided landscape professionals in Eastern Ontario with foundational knowledge regarding the landscape and horticulture industry.

Many of Ottawa's top landscape business owners, including many of our members, started there.

But where will the next generation of business owners come from?

Unfortunately, Algonquin College's Board of Governors voted to cut 30 programs this week. Two Horticulture programs were among them.

We are deeply disappointed by this decision, especially since the industry is already suffering from a skilled labour shortage.

We reached out many times to the College to advocate for those programs. We did not hear back from them.

Professionals in the green trade design, create and maintain green spaces. As stewards of the land, they are instrumental when it comes to protecting our environment and building green cities for the future.

Landscape Ontario believes that robust educational foundations are key to a thriving industry. We will continue to advocate for those programs all across the Province.

We take this opportunity to thank the current Algonquin College students for their dedication and passion. We truly look forward to seeing how you will bring that passion and energy to the industry.

So today we completed OJT delivery at Greentrade and this morning I reflected on my "teaching"/delivery agent for LO and mentioned to Joe Salemi this morning next year will be my 20th year doing so for LO and as such it will be the final year I commit to multiple delivery options for LO. My first delivery was the Sales and Marketing module of the CLP now CLM at Congress in 2007 having just started my own company on the 1st that year. I share this so that planning for post 2027 can begin accordingly 😌. It's been a privilege and honour to serve my profession and association but 2 decades of heavily involved service is now transitioning to others to bear the load and responsibility so that my off season in 2028 can involve more of items that need to have our attention as family aka pending grandson's arrival this May/June 😀.
I will always be a sounding board but wish to wind down my willingness to make our life fit around LOs requests beginning in 2028 so I believe that's more than fair notice.
