Today we’re celebrating Kaya turning 4. 🐾

Rescue pup.
Professional field explorer.
Part-time wildlife investigator.
Full-time treat enthusiast.

She loves her people fiercely, patrols the farm like it’s her personal kingdom, and brings just enough husky attitude to remind us that she thinks she’s the one in charge around here.

From puppy zoomies to dramatic snow frolicking, life on the farm wouldn’t be the same without this funny girl.

Happy Birthday, Kaya. We love you! 🎂🦴

Anyone else have a dog that thinks they run the farm?

Today we celebrate the women who grow, lead, nurture, and support others along the way.

Agriculture hasn’t always been an easy place for women, but every season more of us are showing up, building businesses, stewarding land, and supporting one another. To the women farming, creating, dreaming, and quietly doing brave things every day, this one is for you. 🌸

Tag a woman who has supported you, inspired you, or helped you grow. 🌸

After years of growing dahlias for markets and florists, one thing is very clear, colour and stem quality is key.

These are some of the dahlia color families we’re asked for most because they design beautifully and perform well as cut flowers:

🎨 Coral — Sweet Suzanne, Linda’s Baby
🌸 Blush — Sweet Natalie, Café au Lait
🍷 Burgundy — Sam Hopkins, Arabian Night
🤍 White — Boom Boom White, Orsett Beauty

Strong stems. Reliable production. Colors that mix effortlessly in arrangements.

That’s the lens we use when selecting the varieties in our current dahlia tuber collection and sale.

💬 If you were planting this season, which color family would you build your garden around?

Let’s talk about the real dahlia priorities, especially if you’re growing for cut flowers, bouquets, markets, or working with florists. Here’s the tea:

🦄 Unicorn tubers? Yes, they’re pretty and fun to collect… but here’s what actually matters when you’re producing flowers people want to cut and sell.

🎨 Color that works in designs — florists often care more about a reliable color palette (blush, creams, peaches, burgundies, neutrals, etc.) than a specific name.

🌿 Strong, long stems — nothing beats stems that hold up in arrangements.

🌼 Good production & vase life — as a grower, prolific bloomers and long vase life matter more than rarity.

Sure, some varieties like Café Au Lait are classics people know, but most designers are thinking “What color fits this palette?” more than “What’s the exact variety name?” when they’re grabbing stems for weddings or design projects. Our current tuber sale is built around high-performing cut-flower producers and versatile color families that florists/designers love time and time again.

💬 Drop a 🌸 if you grow for blooms, or a 🦄 if you’re still chasing rare names🤗

Everyone keeps talking about 2016… and while I didn’t have a master plan in 2016, it was certainly pivotal.

I was working my corporate job, tending the farm in the evenings, and showing up as a farmers market vendor on weekends, quietly feeling like I was onto something.

That year I was growing veggies, finding my stride, and collaborating more on the farm with my brother. It was also the year I met my to be future husband and making the leap into focusing on cut flowers (without knowing how big that decision would become).

Fast forward, and here we are. Different scale. Same love for growing beautiful things.

What were you doing in 2016?
Same path, or total plot twist since then? 👇

(P.S. If you love farm life, flowers, and behind-the-scenes growing, stick around! 🌱)

crowned delphiniums the flower of 2026 and honestly, we can't disagree. Their stature and colour palette are unbeatable. But we think ranunculus and digitalis give them a run for their money - what's your take? Can’t we just say we love it all!

Winter prep on the farm doesn’t happen all at once, it happens in layers. Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at what November really looks like on the farm:

1️⃣ Rolling up the Hortonova netting, and saving what we can.
2️⃣ Clearing out beds that worked hard all season (yes… we’re still catching up on cleanup 🙃).
3️⃣ Digging and dividing dahlias so your tubers arrive healthy, labeled, and ready for spring planting.
4️⃣ Tucking thousands of tulips into their beds for a burst of spring colour.
5️⃣ And the sweetest sign of hope: ranunculus already sprouting in the tunnel.

This is the messy, magical in-between season, part wrap-up, part new beginning. 🌱✨ Every step we take now sets up our blooms for next year, and we love bringing you along for the journey.

What part of winter prep do you want to see more of?
