Westland Design is a creative landscape and innovative construction company based in Surrey, B.C. We hold over 30 years of combined experience in landscape design, renovation and construction and innovative architecture design. We are trained and specialise in Japanese garden design and construction. Designs we can create for you: We build decks as extensions to your family room or kitchen. We create and install water features that can be seen and heard from inside the house. We create outdoor fireplaces to provide warmth on those chilly summer nights. We plant ornamental trees and shrubs that provide a fresh scent bringing you closer to nature and further from the work space. We build bird houses and feeders for your visual enjoyment, whether you are indoors watching birds from your couch or outside on your patio. Westland Design always strive to deliver and create a living space that best suits your unique lifestyle. We provide exceptional services to help cater to our client’s expectations, enhancing your living space as you share your space with your friends and loved ones.

A garden that changed the way our clients live. 🌿

We recently completed this contemporary Japanese garden in Burnaby, BC. At the beginning, our clients weren’t quite sure how the project would unfold—but they trusted our vision and process. Today, they are extremely happy with the result and how their new outdoor space has transformed their everyday lifestyle.

We approached every exterior detail with the precision of fine interior carpentry. From the custom woodwork to the carefully finished stone facing, the workmanship is clean, refined and impeccable.

Many of the garden’s key elements were sourced directly by us:

• Natural boulders selected from Whistler
• Authentic stone lanterns imported directly from the factory
• Professional landscape lighting sourced directly from the manufacturer
• Carefully shaped specimen trees grown at our own nursery

Every stone, tree, light and architectural detail was thoughtfully positioned to create balance, movement and tranquility.

This is more than a newly finished landscape—it is a peaceful outdoor living environment designed around the people who call it home.

A peaceful moment, created through thoughtful design. 🌿💧

This Japanese-inspired front garden brings together sculptural boulders, vibrant planting, natural stone, soft landscape lighting, and the calming sound of water flowing from a traditional bamboo spout.

The silky stream adds movement and tranquillity, while the stone basin becomes a beautiful focal point within the landscape. Every element was carefully positioned to create balance, texture, and year-round interest. These water basins are for sale by Westland Design. Send us a PM for more information.

Modern Architecture Meets Japanese Garden Design 🌿

A contemporary home deserves a landscape that feels just as intentional.

For this project, Westland Design created a Japanese-inspired front garden that brings together strong architectural lines and the natural character of stone, plants and water.

Large feature boulders anchor the garden, while Japanese maples, sculptural pine, layered groundcovers and seasonal colour soften the modern architecture. Clean paving, dark borders, river stone and a traditional stone lantern complete the connection between the house and garden.

The goal was simple: create a front entrance that feels modern, natural and timeless—a garden that will become more beautiful as it matures.

A Japanese-inspired garden comes alive after dark. ✨

With the stone lantern glowing and carefully positioned landscape lighting highlighting the Japanese maples, boulders, plants, and granite steps, the garden takes on a peaceful and dramatic nighttime character.

Plants, natural boulders, granite steps, and the stone lantern were all supplied by Westland Design.

This project was designed and built by Westland Design—and will continue to be maintained by our team so it can mature beautifully for years to come.

A modern Japanese-inspired garden designed and built by Westland Design. 🌿

Natural boulders, sculptural Japanese maples and pine trees are carefully arranged alongside clean architectural paving and granite elements. Colourful seasonal planting softens the hardscape and brings movement, texture and life to the entrance.

Every stone, pathway and plant was thoughtfully placed to create balance between the modern home and the natural landscape—a peaceful garden that will become more beautiful with every passing season.
