KPU Turf Management

KPU Turf Management KPU’s Turfgrass Management Diploma is a two-year full-time program where students learn the development and maintenance of golf and landscape turf.

Turf management is a key component of the landscape trades, recreation, and tourism industries and a significant component of the provincial economy. Approximately 126,000 hectares of managed turfgrass exist in the province. There is steady demand for qualified turf managers. Graduates from the Kwantlen program have the skills necessary to achieve management level careers in turfgrass operations.

Students will be involved in the ongoing development and maintenance of the golf turf and landscape turf on campus. While many graduates find employment in the golf course industry, opportunities also exist in lawn care, landscape maintenance, athletic field management, commercial sod growing, and management of cemeteries, parks, and recreational facilities. Related careers include golf course construction, equipment supply, and fertilizer and seed sales. A number of turf management graduates have established successful careers in arboriculture as well.

Tee it Up March 9 at the Western Canadian Turf Conference

Do you work in the golf and turf management industry and hardly ever get to play golf? The Western Canadian Turfgrass Conference and Trade Show wants to remedy that siuation. With help from the Kwantlen University Turf Club, we're hosting the 'Tournament for Turf Research' at one of Vancouver Island's most spectacular and popular tracks, Olympic View Golf Course.
(Actuallly, KPU students get all the credit for organizing this event, along with the support of the Golf BC Group and superintendent, Brett Finlayson)
So why not tie in a spring educational and networking trip to Victoria with a round to get your season going? It's also a rare opportunity to see how they roll at a busy, year-round, high-end, super well-maintained, daily fee golf course.
Cost is $60 all-in which includes furthering the industry by supporting turfgrass research projects and:
• transport via coach from The Fairmont Empress Hotel and back
• golf
• golf cart
• lunch & beer at Olympic View (Can we say beer? If not, we meant 'beverage')
• golf & cart (sorry, said that already. Too many beverages...)
• free rentals and range balls (OMG, you don't have to haul your own clubs!)
Once registererd, everything will be taken care of and you won't have to think of anything else except maybe 'Where are my golf shoes?', 'Do I have any golf balls?' and 'Should I hit sand wedge, lob wedge, gap wedge or pitching wedge on the 16th?"
Details:
Tournament takes place on Monday, March 9, 2015. Bus leaves the Empress at 10:30 AM sharp for noon shotgun scramble and returns right after golf in time for the Dave Creamer Memorial Hockey Game and BCGSA Monday Night Social. KPU Turf Club will connect with registrants early March for final details. Registration deadline is March 1st at noon.
Register for golf using the conference registration form at:
