Please join us Sept 15 for a party in Swalwell Park! We are so grateful to the Lake Country community for their resilience, cooperation and support during the wildfire that affected our area. This is an opportunity to come together and have fun! Come thank and hug a firefighter! 👨‍🚒 They will be there with a number of FireSmart and recruitment materials and handling Firestorm 2023 t-shirt sales (proceeds will go towards the Central Okanagan Fire Relief Fund). As a special treat, we will have two Live in Lake Country performances. 🎵
See you there 😎

Firefighters are patrolling West Kelowna's Glenrosa neighbourhood and providing property owners tips on how to FireSmart their homes.

Great resources are available on FireSmartBC website about practical steps you can take. Its never too soon to start making our homes more resilient to wildfire.

There is also a last minute checklist to help you prioritise if you get placed on alert.

**Very Important**
If you are back home and see smoldering within 100 feet of your property call Lake Country Fire to report it 250-469-8577

Stay away from the area and leave it to the fire crews to take it out. Ground cover has been checked multiple times before lifting evacuation orders - but fires can flare up again.

As evacuated residents prepare to return home (www.cordemergency.ca), there are several considerations to keep in mind. Please review the ‘Re-entry information booklet’https://www.kelowna.ca/sites/files/1/docs/related/rdco_going_home_information_booklet_aug_23.pdf
Please be aware closures of parks and trails in affected areas will continue, including the Okanagan Centre dog park. Crews will be working in the impacted areas; we ask that you be respectful and remain clear of their activities.
If residents returning home notice hot spots within their areas, please call 911 to report. If you need to make the District aware of any hazards on properties, use the Report a Problem feature on our website https://www.lakecountry.bc.ca/en/local-government/request-for-service.aspx
If you have questions for the District specific to the wildfire, please email [email protected]

The most up-to date and official news related to the wildfires continues to be Central Okanagan Emergency Operations. However, we've put together a Q&A of local information that may be useful for residents. Please visit https://www.lakecountry.bc.ca/LakeCountryFire2023/
We'll continue to update this as news relevant to our area becomes available.

As Chief Lee mentioned earlier in the press conference, the best way to show your appreciation for Lake Country Fire Department is through your words and kindness to one another in this stressful time. We welcome any letters/cards for the firefighters at Municipal Hall (10150 Bottom Wood Lake Road) or you can use social media to share your thoughts with . We'll compile all your words into a lovely presentation that we'll share with the firefighters and all of you 🙌
*Please do not send any items to the Fire Hall at this moment.

Saturday night I had the opportunity to tour areas of our community that have been impacted by the Lake Country Wildfire. It’s hard to put in words how I felt as I looked at where the fires continued to burn.
