Charred to perfection. 🔥

The crew is finishing off many odds and ends at different projects, as we break ground on a couple new ones. Today they are finishing off this cool Japanese burnt wood (Shou Sugi Ban) fence for our clients. This is a process of charring the surface of the wood to enhance its durability and aesthetic appeal, not only beautiful, but also:

Highly durable
Low maintenance
Pest resistant
Rot resistant
Weather resistant
Fire resistant
Locally sourced and sustainable

So nice to be working outside as we head towards warmer weather, but things are sure heating up🔥

Who says a tiny home has to be small? This cozy 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom home, boasting 914 sq. ft., is just waiting for its drywall and siding! Our client couldn't be happier 😎. It has conditioned attic storage and drop-down stairs. Plus, this home will meet step code 3 for energy efficiency and achieve emission level 4 according to the zero carbon step code. As construction begins on a new residence for our clients on this beautiful waterfront acreage in Nanaimo, archaeology is working hard to assess any areas we are looking to develop.

We are always mindful of any potential challenges, including the concern of uncovering artifacts that may impact timelines and costs. However, these processes are now fairly straightforward and routine in our area. The Cowichan Valley and Nanaimo have many archaeologically significant areas.
Chase has been helping to lead another thorough excavation, working closely with a team of archaeologists, and First Nations representatives & elders. This project reminds us of our ongoing dedication to responsible development practices, ensuring that we honor the past while creating new opportunities for the future.

Today and every day we give thanks, that we are able to work, live, and play on the traditional lands of the Coast Salish peoples (Ts’uubaa-asatx, Penelakut, Halalt, Lyackson, Stz’uminus, Malahat and Quw’utsun peoples).
