This is a great story!

In July, Indigenous youth with the Outland Youth Employment Program (OYEP) gained hands-on forestry experience on a Canfor block near Whitecourt, planting trees and exploring sustainable forest management and careers in the forest sector.

For the past several years, Canfor has partnered with OYEP by providing blocks for participants to complete their forestry training. This year, our Indigenous Relations and Engagement Coordinator in Alberta had the chance to connect with participants to learn more about their experiences, goals, and what they have learned so far about forestry.

The Tree Frog News did a team retreat last weekend! Actually, it was just friends getting away for the weekend, but we were 3 out of four frogs! Sandy, Kelly, Heidi and Mark got an early morning start and took the Lady Rose Marine Francis Barley boat along the Alberni Inlet to Bamfield. We were lucky with the weather and had some glorious sunshine (and some tropical feeling rain!). It's a great way to see forests, forestry, log sorts, small coastal mills, fire scars, little communities, floating homes and wildlife. We stayed Saturday night in Bamfield and returned on the boat the next day. Here's a small sampling of what we got to see along the way.
