New mandate for Ikajurtigiit 🛠️

Last week, Ikajurtigiit started the construction of four sheds in Kuujjuaq for the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services. One of them will be shipped to Inukjuak by sealift this fall.

This project will also be a first for the team, as they will be installing steel roofing shingles from Camital Revêtement Métallique, a company based in Victoriaville, Quebec. It is a durable product with concealed fasteners, designed to be highly resistant to northern winds.

Project update from the team 🛠️🏠

In the past weeks, Ikajurtigiit has started minor renovation work for the ᐃᓪᓗᓕᕆᔨᒃᑯᑦ - Nunavik Housing Bureau - Office d’habitation du Nunavik

The first homes in Kuujjuaraapik and Kangiqsujuaq are completed! 💪

These smaller renovation projects matter. They help our member-workers keep building their skills while contributing to homes where Nunavik families can feel safe and comfortable.

The reality of construction work in Nunavik... 🛠️

On our last run to Kangiqsujuaq, it took Patrick, Caleb, and Aloupa five days to get there and four days to get back, due to bad weather.

A true patience test, and completely out of our control. Sometimes, Mother Nature has the final say.

Big thanks to Air Inuit, our Nunavik airline, for doing their best to serve passengers despite northern weather realities. 🔵✈️

Cabin Project in 🛠️🏠

Ikajurtigiit is proud to partner with on a 12 x 16 cabin on the land built in collaboration with the ᐃᑳᕐᑐᐃᑦ Ikaartuit program's teenagers aged 13 to 24 years old.

Designed by our team, this cabin model features a whale-bone structure and is built with high-quality materials, including cedar wood.

Building this cabin was an opportunity to learn how to work together, to express yourself, and to build something meaningful on the land around Ivujiivik.

Ahoyak joined Ikajurtigiit in June 2026, and has already made a great impression on the team.

He is a carpenter-joiner, a dedicated apprentice, and someone who brings good energy to the people around him. His work ethic and positive attitude have been noticed by everyone.💪👏
