OCTOBER MEMBER SPOTLIGHT 🛠️

This month, we’re introducing Yaanimmarik Saunders. 👋

🔵 Role: Apprentice 2 & President of the Board
🔵 Community: Kuujjuaq
🔵 Skills: Carpentry and electricity

As one of Ikajurtigiit's founding members, Yaanimmarik has been part of the cooperative's journey since its establishment in 2023. Since then, he continues to contribute his hands-on experience and leadership to the team.

As Board President, he also plays a key role in guiding Ikajurtigiit while continuing to develop his own skills in the trades.

We’re so proud to have Yaanimmarik as part of the team! 🔵

Throwback to September Project Completions 🛠️

Patrick, Davidee, Caleb, Roger, Sanaak, Johnaven, Yaanimmarik and Gaven were in Kuujjuaq a few weeks back to complete an important construction mandate for Isuarsivik.

It’s great to see another project moving forward and our team putting its skills to work on the land.

Here’s a look at the team on the job and the final result. We love it! 🔵

September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 🟠

Today, we honour Residential School Survivors, their families and communities, and everyone whose lives have been affected by the residential school experience. We also remember the children who never returned home.

For us, reconciliation means creating opportunities for Inuit member-workers to learn, build their skills and contribute to their communities.
When knowledge and experience stay in Nunavik, communities grow stronger.

Let’s build us up. 🟠

A big thank you to the Kativik Regional Government! 🤝

Earlier this month, Yaanimmarik and Patrick met with the Economic Development team to present the scope of Ikajurtigiit’s annual strategic retreat. It was also an opportunity to recognize the KRG’s ongoing support, which helps Ikajurtigiit continue moving forward. The meeting ended on a positive note, with a $55,000 contribution from the KRG to support our team’s retreat in Salluit.

Nakurmiik for supporting our cooperative and the important work being done with our member-workers across Nunavik. 🔵

A few days in Salluit 🔵

Our annual strategic retreat is wrapping up, and the team has been keeping busy all week.

Not too many words needed for this post. The photos say it better than we could. 😉

A good week together, and plenty to bring back home with us.

Let’s build us up. 🛠️

Next stop: Salluit! 🛠️

From September 21 to 25, members of Ikajurtigiit will come together for our annual strategic retreat.

It will be a chance to look back on the past year, celebrate what the cooperative has accomplished, and prepare for what comes next.

The week will also include training with the APCHQ and plenty of time to learn and work together.

More from Salluit in the coming days. 🔵

Let’s build us up!

♥️

This year marks 10 years since the release of the National Inuit Su***de Prevention Strategy. In this time, ITK has drawn attention to the need to reduce su***de risk factors and increase protective factors through effective policy design. We continue to work to increase equity for Inuit in areas such as housing, cost of living, access to healthcare and child welfare. With direction from our Board of Directors, ITK continues to work through the Inuit-Crown partnership to ensure programs and initiatives intended to benefit Inuit actually do benefit Inuit. We have developed many partnerships along the way, including with organizations like Kids Help Phone to ensure Inuit-specific supports are in place for Inuit youth.

If you or someone you know is in distress, help is available:

WORKER-MEMBER SPOTLIGHT🛠️

Today, we remember Aloupa Nungak, from Kangirsuk.🌠

Last week, Aloupa passed away, the same day we had planned to share this post in recognition of his contribution to the Ikajurtigiit team since 2023.

🔵 Role: Apprentice 1
🔵 Community: Kangirsuk
🔵 Strengths: Patience and perseverance

Today, on World Su***de Prevention Day, we also take time to recognize and honour Aloupa's place in Ikajurtigiit's history.

Aloupa had been a valued member and worker of our team since the creation of Ikajurtigiit. He was a strong man with a gentle soul, known for his strong work ethic, his carpentry skills, and his good energy on the team.

He brought valuable experience in framing and minor renovations and recently played an important role at our latest job site in Kangiqsujuaq, working with one of our long-term partners, the Nunavik Housing Bureau.

Thank you, Aloupa, for your work, for the moments we shared, and for the memories you leave behind.

Our thoughts are with your family, your friends, and the community of Kangirsuk.

Your Ikajurtigiit team 💙

New mandate for Ikajurtigiit 🛠️

Last week, Ikajurtigiit started the construction of four sheds in Kuujjuaq for the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services. One of them will be shipped to Inukjuak by sealift this fall.

This project will also be a first for the team, as they will be installing steel roofing shingles from Camital Revêtement Métallique, a company based in Victoriaville, Quebec. It is a durable product with concealed fasteners, designed to be highly resistant to northern winds.
