Dan's very happy with the results. Honestly, so are we.

He called us about the driveway — years of asphalt cracked. That's usually how these start. One surface fails, and once you're looking at it you notice everything else.

So we took the whole thing on. Old asphalt out, base rebuilt properly, and the driveway laid in Unilock Windermere. Same stone through the walkway and the back patio.

Our maintenance crew doesn't get an off-season.

Spring cleanups, cutting through the summer, leaves in the fall, and plows before dawn in January. Same crew, same property, all twelve months.

Full exterior on this one, front and back.

The backyard sloped enough that the kids had nowhere flat to play, so we built an armour stone retaining wall along the low side and backfilled to grade. There's a proper level lawn back there now. Poured a concrete pad for the shed, and a vertical garden.

Out front, a low-maintenance garden to give the entrance some charm.

The most expensive fence mistake isn't a crooked post. It's a fence on your neighbour's side of the line.

A good fence starts before anyone digs. Confirm the property line — from the survey, not the hedge, not where the old fence was. Old fences move. Assumptions get expensive when the house next door sells.

Make sure your lines are actually straight., your posts are level, and footings below the frost line, because a post set shallow will lift with the ground every winter until the whole fence is wandering.

The digging is the easy part. The planning is the job.

Concrete or pavers? what would you pick?

On our Farmington Way project the homeowners came in set on concrete. Years of shifting asphalt will do that — they wanted something solid.

They went with pavers instead, and the guarantee is what did it.

Unilock guarantees the structural integrity of the stone for life, and it transfers to the next owner if you sell. Poured concrete doesn't come with anything like it.

Here's a drainage detail most people would call a mistake.

Because underground drain lines freeze here. Every winter. And when they do, that water has to go somewhere — backwards up the downspout until it splits, or all the way up to the roofline where it starts an ice dam.

The Y gives it an exit at grade. A drip in July beats a roof repair in March.
