Last week, in honor of Truth and Reconciliation Day, our CIMS staff welcomed Jason Henry, Anishinaabe Knowledge Keeper, as our guest speaker for his presentation: Beyond Acknowledgment: Shared Paths Forward for Truth, Reconciliation.

Our Key Takeaways:
🪶 Reconciliation is a daily practice
🪶 Listening and learning are essential
🪶 Respectful relationships require action and humility

We honor Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and commit to carrying these lessons forward. Every Child Matters. 🧡

🎉 Supporting the Port Coquitlam Professional Firefighters Charitable Society in their mission to feed 600+ kids a healthy breakfast every school day, CIMS was proud to host our 3rd Annual Fundraiser for the Kids!

And wow… our community showed up BIG. Together, we raised $77,535! 🙌 Proof of what happens when sponsors, partners, staff, and families all pitch in for a great cause.

From kids laughter, to popcorn, cotton candy and a little bit of magic, this day had it all. Most importantly, it had heart. ❤️

Huge THANK YOU to everyone who sponsored, donated, volunteered, bid, and joined us. You’ve made a real difference, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Honouring Cailen Vilness: Supporting the Next Generation of Trades

Each year, CIMS proudly awards a $1,000 Trades, Technology & Engineering Scholarship to a graduating student from MEMSS or KCH, in memory of Cailen Vilness.

Cailen, a former MEMSS student, was known for his strong work ethic, creative spirit, and dreams of building a career in the trades. He found his passion in carpentry, working hard to earn an apprenticeship before his life was tragically cut short in a crane accident in Kelowna on July 12, 2021, alongside four of his colleagues.

This scholarship celebrates Cailen’s legacy by supporting students who share his drive, perseverance, and positivity as they take their first steps into the trades, technology, or engineering fields.

This year, we’re proud to recognize Jacob Aiken as the 2025 scholarship recipient. Jacob will be pursuing a Carpentry Program and has demonstrated the kind of dedication and attitude that Cailen embodied.

Congratulations, Jacob, we cheer you on as you build your future.

We had a great time at the Aamjiwnaang's 3rd Annual Apprenticeship Union Trades Fair on June 11 connecting with local students and community members at the Maawn D***h Gumig Community Centre. Events like these are a fantastic way to share what we do, highlight career paths in the skilled trades, and meet the next generation of talent.

Thank you to the Aamjiwnaang First Nation for hosting and to everyone who stopped by to chat with our team!

Here’s to the dads who build more than just structures.
You build character. You build resilience.
And you can MacGyver anything with duct tape and a crescent wrench!

Your grit, heart, and humor shape the jobsite and the people on it. Happy Father’s Day from all of us.

CIMS had a great time out on the course at the Golf Day: Charity Golf Tournament in support of KidSport Calgary!

Proud to sponsor a hole and swing some clubs, all to help make sure ALL Kids Can Play.

This event celebrated KidSport’s 30th anniversary and raised funds to help ensure that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of kids participating in sport. A great day of networking, teamwork, and giving back, thank you to everyone who made it possible!

🌟 Community Connections in Kitimat! 🌟 On May 27, 2025, the CIMS Kitimat Division had the pleasure of participating in the Haisla Job Fair, and what a fantastic day it was!

Our table stayed busy as we connected with job seekers eager to learn more about opportunities at CIMS. It was also a great chance to reconnect with contractors and partner organizations we regularly work with, strengthening the relationships that help keep our operations running smoothly.

We are very proud to have the opportunity to be part of events like this that bring industry and community together. Thanks to everyone who stopped by, and we’re already looking forward to next year!

In welding and in life, strong bonds are everything. This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the original fabricators of life, love, strength (and a whole lot of patience!). Women who create those lasting connections, in our families, our teams, and our world. Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at CIMS!

As we pause today to remember those we’ve lost or who’ve been hurt at work, let’s take a quiet moment to reflect on the deep importance of protecting one another. These aren’t just statistics, they’re people we care about, our friends, coworkers, and families. Let’s honor them by continuing to work together to ensure everyone gets home safe.
