The way some girls can’t function without Starbucks… we honestly can’t function without our tools. 😂

And around here, they get put to work on a lot more than the pretty parts of a renovation.

Renovations and additions often involve working with an existing structure that was built years - sometimes decades - before the new plans existed. Once walls are opened or an addition starts tying into the house, that’s when the real conditions become clear.

Old framing may need reinforcement. Openings can require structural changes. Previous work may need to be corrected. And where new construction meets the existing home, the building envelope has to be carefully tied together so air, water and insulation layers stay continuous.

Those transitions are especially important. A beautiful addition can still create problems later if flashing, waterproofing, insulation or structural connections aren’t properly worked into the existing house.

That’s why our renovation work can include additions, structural repairs and envelope fixes alongside the visible upgrades.

So yes… the tools are coming with us everywhere. 😂

One minute you’re working in the backyard… the next you know way too much about the family. 😂

Construction comes with a few unexpected perks: fresh air, heavy equipment, and occasionally a front-row seat to conversations you definitely weren’t meant to hear. 😅

We’ll keep doing what we came to do - stay focused, respect the property, keep the site organized, and get the job done properly.

At this point, we’ve heard enough to be invited to Thanksgiving. 😂

Apparently, we’re pretty good at whatever job we take on. 😂

Luckily, construction is still the one we know best.

And one thing we’ve learned over the years is that every client comes to us at a different stage. Some already have approved drawings. Some have an idea and need help developing it. Others already have trades involved and need someone experienced to manage the bigger picture.

Some days, owning a business in 2026 feels a little like this. 😂

Running and growing a construction company comes with plenty to manage. Material and operating costs keep changing, supply chains can shift, skilled trades are in high demand, and every project still has schedules, inspections, trades, and client decisions to coordinate. Those are very real pressures in Canadian construction right now.

But as the business grows, our priorities stay the same.

The quality of our work comes first. So does having skilled people on the job, communicating clearly, checking the work, solving problems properly, and being accountable for the project from beginning to end.

We want Paradise to keep growing, but we want to grow in a way that protects the standard our clients hire us for.

There are definitely easier days than others… but we wouldn’t trade this job for anything. 😎

We don’t like to brag… but after this Reel, you all know the truth. 😂

Apparently, our construction experience goes back a little further than we’ve been letting on.

Pyramids? Covered. 😎
The Colosseum? Been there. 😎
The Eiffel Tower? Obviously. 😎

Okay, maybe the timeline is slightly exaggerated… but the point stands: our team loves a challenge, and every project gives us something new to figure out, plan and build.

Custom homes, renovations, additions, ICF, helical piles, septic systems - we’ve got a pretty wide skill set around here.

At this point, we’re convinced there’s nothing we can’t build. 😂

The important thing is… we work well as a team. 😂
Even when “teamwork” looks a little questionable.

Luckily, when it comes to the actual build, everyone knows exactly what they’re doing.

One area our team has extensive experience with is ICF construction.

ICF systems use insulated forms that stay in place around the poured concrete, creating a strong, continuously insulated wall assembly. Installation requires careful layout, reinforcement, bracing, alignment, and attention during the concrete pour.

For homeowners, ICF can offer improved energy efficiency, airtightness, temperature control, sound reduction, and added resistance to moisture and mould.

Paradise is a Certified ICF Installer, and we use these systems for custom homes, foundations, additions, and other projects throughout Kingston and the surrounding area.

Honestly, we actually love filming content. 😂 It’s a completely different part of the job, and it gives us a chance to show a little more of the people behind the projects.

One thing we also love about construction is that no two days - or projects - look exactly the same.

Every custom home, renovation, addition, foundation, septic system, or helical pile project comes with its own site conditions, layout, goals, challenges, and decisions to work through.

Some projects are about creating more space. Some need structural upgrades. Some start with difficult soil or access. Others involve working carefully with an existing home and figuring out the best way forward.

That variety keeps the work interesting, and it’s a big part of why experience matters.

Our job is to look at the project in front of us, understand what it needs, and build the right plan around it.

And yes… apparently filming Reels is part of the job now too. 😂

We can tell the sound of a nail gun from a saw with our eyes closed. 😂
And that’s not the only superpower you pick up after years in construction.

Renovations come with another one: knowing what to do when the drawings and the real house don’t quite agree.

Demo day can uncover old framing, unexpected plumbing or electrical runs, structural issues, water damage, or previous work that was done differently than expected.

That’s when experience matters.

The builder has to assess what was uncovered, understand how it affects the planned work, bring in the right trade or engineer when needed, and adjust the next steps without creating bigger problems elsewhere in the project.

At Paradise, we work on renovations, additions, structural upgrades and envelope repairs, so dealing with existing conditions is a regular part of the job.

When the boss asks if you measured correctly… suddenly you’re measuring it again. 😂

But when it comes to construction, double-checking is never a bad habit.

Accurate measurements and careful planning affect every part of a home - including the spaces that may not get much attention during the design process.

Take the mechanical room. It needs to be planned around HVAC equipment, the water heater, electrical components, required clearances, and enough room for future service and maintenance.

It may never be the room you show off, but it has an important job to do.

At Paradise, we think through how these spaces need to function early in the process, so the equipment, access, and layout are properly considered before construction moves too far ahead.
